Saleh Mamman jailed 75 years after Abuja court convicted ex-minister over ₦33.8bn fraud and money laundering charges filed by EFCC.
Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, has been sentenced to 75 years imprisonment after the Federal High Court in Abuja found him guilty of massive financial crimes involving public funds worth ₦33.8 billion.
The judgment, delivered by Justice James Omotosho on Wednesday, followed the conviction of the former minister on all 12 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The charges centred on fraud, diversion of government funds, and money laundering.
The court ruled that Saleh Mamman would serve seven years imprisonment on 10 of the charges, while counts four and five attracted three years and two years respectively.

Justice Omotosho ordered that all the sentences run consecutively, increasing the punishment to a total of 75 years behind bars.
Although the court allowed an option of a ₦10 million fine on one of the counts, the judgment marked one of the most significant convictions involving a former cabinet member in recent years.
Investigators told the court that the ₦33.8bn fraud was allegedly carried out through suspicious bank transactions and multiple financial channels during Mamman’s tenure as minister.

Prosecutors from the EFCC argued that the funds were diverted from public resources meant for national development projects within the power sector.
As part of the ruling, the court also approved the forfeiture of several assets connected to the former minister. These include foreign currencies recovered during investigations and four expensive Abuja properties traced to Saleh Mamman.
The conviction is expected to strengthen ongoing anti-corruption efforts by the EFCC, especially in cases involving former public office holders accused of abusing government resources.
