Residents of Epe, Lagos State, have begun to enjoy electricity after months of blackout, as the state government replaces vandalized infrastructure. However, not all communities have been reconnected.
Many communities in Epe have been in the dark for over six months following the vandalization of critical electrical infrastructure. This has forced many residents to rely on alternative power supplies, such as generating sets.
According to a fresh student of Lagos State University (Epe Campus), who pleaded anonymity, “Residents who have been living here before I came in said it has been over six months since they last had electricity. I have never experienced power supply since I got here.”
The Lagos State Government announced that the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has replaced all vandalized portions of the Agbowa feeder, leading to the full restoration of power supply to the substation in Epe.
However, some sub-communities in Epe, including parts of Iraye and the LASU Epe Campus, are still in the dark. The LASU student revealed, “They have started restoring it, but it has not gotten to our side in Iraye. It has not reached inside LASU Epe Campus. It has gotten to some places in Epe, but not Iraye, around where the school is situated.”
The student expressed hope that power supply will be restored to Iraye and other sub-communities in Epe where power is yet to be restored.
