British woman shot in Texas– Lucy Harrison, a 23-year-old British woman, was fatally shot in Texas by her father during a US holiday following a heated argument about Donald Trump, an inquest in Cheshire has revealed.
The fashion buyer from Warrington had been visiting her father, Kris Harrison, and his family in the Dallas suburb of Prosper when the tragic incident occurred.
According to testimony, Lucy’s boyfriend, Sam Littler, who travelled with her for the holiday, described finding her lying dead on the floor after a confrontation with her father.
Mr Littler said that earlier in the day, Lucy and Mr Harrison had engaged in a “big” argument about Mr Trump, who was soon to be inaugurated as president.
The argument escalated, leaving Lucy visibly upset and leading to the fatal encounter.
Mr Littler told the coroner that he heard a loud bang shortly after her father led Lucy into a bedroom. He described Mr Harrison’s immediate reaction as chaotic, saying he was screaming “nonsense” as he called for his wife.
Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, spoke of her daughter as a “real force of life” who was passionate, caring, and deeply engaged in debates about meaningful topics.
The inquest also revealed that Mr Harrison had a history of alcohol treatment and that arguments between him and Lucy had occurred previously, particularly over his ownership of a gun.
On the morning of 10 January, shortly before the family was due to return to the UK, Lucy had confronted her father about how he would feel if she were the victim of sexual assault. Mr Littler said that Mr Harrison responded that he had other daughters, implying he would not be as upset.
About half an hour later, while Lucy was in the kitchen, her father led her into a ground floor bedroom. Moments later, the fatal shot was fired. Mr Littler ran into the room to find Lucy near the bathroom entrance, while Mr Harrison was in a state of apparent panic.
The inquest emphasized that Mr Harrison was the only person in the room when the shooting occurred.
Legal representatives for Mr Harrison requested that coroner Jacqueline Devonish recuse herself, claiming a risk of bias. The application was refused. Ms Coates’ lawyer described the attempt as an “ambush” by the father’s legal team.
The inquest proceedings are being conducted in a manner more akin to a criminal investigation than a fact-finding inquiry, highlighting the complexity and sensitivity of the case.
