Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of not wanting the war to end, citing continued attacks on Ukrainian territory. This statement comes after Zelenskyy’s meeting with former US President Donald Trump, which sparked controversy.
“It was not a spontaneous reaction to interventions by Zelenskyy, but obviously a manufactured escalation in this meeting in the Oval Office,” said Friedrich Merz, the likely new German chancellor, referring to the Trump-Zelenskyy row.
Zelenskyy has reiterated his gratitude for American support, despite Trump’s blistering attack. Trump claimed he was the only US president not to have handed Ukrainian land over to Vladimir Putin, stating, “Remember that when the weak and ineffective Democrat’s criticise, and the Fake News gladly puts out anything they say!” However, fact-checking reveals that no US president has ever given Ukrainian land to Putin’s Russia.
As tensions escalate, Zelenskyy remains defiant, and Germany’s Merz calls for Europe to act quickly, saying, “We must now show that we are in a position to act independently in Europe.”
