President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s determination to bring terrorism and banditry in Nigeria to a decisive end, assuring citizens that the country will ultimately overcome its current security challenges.
The President gave the assurance during an interfaith breaking of fast held at the State House Abuja, where he hosted traditional rulers alongside leaders from the Christian and Muslim communities.
The event formed part of activities marking the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season, both of which are being observed simultaneously this year.

Addressing the gathering, Tinubu acknowledged that Nigeria continues to face security pressures but emphasized that the government remains focused on defeating criminal groups responsible for acts of terrorism and banditry.
According to him, the country will not bow to threats posed by violent actors seeking to undermine peace and stability.
He explained that recent security operations carried out by the nation’s armed forces and security agencies have significantly increased pressure on terrorists and bandits operating in different parts of the country.
Tinubu noted that these groups are becoming increasingly desperate because of the sustained military actions against them.
Despite the difficulties associated with tackling terrorism, the President insisted that the government will remain steadfast in its mission.
He assured Nigerians that the fight against terrorism will continue until the country achieves lasting peace and stability.
Tinubu stated that Nigeria would never surrender to those attempting to destabilize the nation.
Instead, he said, the government is determined to secure victory through sustained security operations and cooperation among national institutions.
The President described the interfaith gathering as an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s collective responsibilities during a period of spiritual significance for both Muslims and Christians.
According to him, the convergence of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season highlights the importance of unity and tolerance within Nigeria’s diverse society.
Tinubu said the country’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s cultural and religious differences should be viewed as a source of strength rather than division.
By working together and supporting one another, he said, citizens can overcome the nation’s challenges and move toward a more stable future.
The President also used the occasion to address the state of the country’s economy. He stated that his administration has taken significant steps to stabilize Nigeria’s finances since assuming office.
According to him, economic reforms implemented by the government are gradually producing positive outcomes.
Tinubu noted that the government has worked to prevent the nation’s economy from sliding into deeper financial distress.
He explained that recent measures have helped improve fiscal stability while also creating the foundation for long-term economic recovery.
As part of efforts to secure a better future for younger generations, the President said the government is prioritizing investments in key sectors such as agriculture and education.
He explained that strengthening agricultural production will enhance food security, create jobs, and reduce the country’s reliance on food imports.
Similarly, he stressed that improving education remains essential for equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy.
According to him, these investments are central to the administration’s strategy for national development.
Leaders representing both Christian and Muslim communities used the occasion to express support for the President and offer prayers for the nation’s progress.
Speaking on behalf of the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, Reverend Stephen Baba Kpanyan said the Christian community remains committed to praying for the country’s peace and stability.
Kpanyan explained that the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent provides a unique moment for reflection and spiritual renewal across Nigeria.
He expressed hope that the sacred season would bring positive changes that would lead to greater peace and unity in the country.
He also prayed for strength and wisdom for the President as he continues to carry the responsibilities of leadership.
According to him, many Christians across the nation are offering prayers for the success of the administration and the overall progress of Nigeria.
In a similar vein, the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, represented the President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, at the gathering.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Muslim leaders and traditional rulers across the country to supporting peace initiatives and strengthening national cohesion.
According to him, religious leaders continue to work closely with communities across Nigeria to promote harmony and discourage actions that could threaten stability.
Abubakar also thanked the President for bringing together leaders from different faiths to share a moment of reflection and prayer.
He said such engagements play an important role in strengthening trust between government and religious communities.
The interfaith gathering concluded with renewed calls for unity, cooperation, and continued prayers for Nigeria’s progress as the country works to overcome challenges such as terrorism, economic pressures, and social divisions.
Throughout the event, participants emphasized that collaboration among government institutions, traditional authorities, and religious leaders remains essential for building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
