Human rights advocate, Comrade Israel Joe, has raised alarm over the brutal murder of a young woman, Happy Odhegba, allegedly committed by a man identified as Jolly Ajiofo, popularly known as “Mr. Mayor,” in Owhelogbo community, located in the Isoko area of Delta State.

According to Comrade Joe, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, July 27, 2025. He alleged that Mr. Mayor, an indigene of Imo State residing in Owhelogbo, lured Happy Odhegba to his rented apartment under the pretense of a private meeting. The suspect was said to have invited her to his residence, where he allegedly murdered her in cold blood.
In a detailed statement posted via social media, Joe disclosed that the deceased, Happy Odhegba, was a young entrepreneur who sold building materials, specifically cement, and had been supplying Mr. Mayor with construction materials for a house he was reportedly building in the same community.
“The man known as Mr. Mayor gruesomely murdered Miss Happy Odhegba after inviting her to his apartment. Eyewitnesses reported hearing her screaming and struggling for her life before everything suddenly went quiet. Tragically, it was later discovered that Mr. Mayor had allegedly strangled and stabbed her multiple times,” Joe narrated.
The activist revealed that neighbors had raised concerns after hearing the commotion, but by the time they checked, it was already too late. Mr. Mayor had reportedly fled the scene and switched off his phone, making efforts to trace his whereabouts more difficult.

Happy’s lifeless body was later recovered and evacuated to the mortuary by her relatives in conjunction with the police. The suspect, however, remains at large.
“This monster is on the run, but he will not escape justice. He even had the audacity to contact me on WhatsApp, asking why I was concerned with the matter. Let me be clear—if the police fail to apprehend you, then my name is not Israel Joe,” the activist said in a strong-worded condemnation of the crime.
He likened the case to a similar incident involving another suspect named Efe Money in Otokutu, Delta State, vowing to go to the same lengths to ensure justice is served.
Joe concluded by calling on the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the suspect to the nearest security agency, stressing the importance of justice for the late Happy Odhegba, whom he described as a “self-sustaining, hardworking young lady.”
