Soludo takes oath for second term with grand inauguration ceremony

Professor Charles Soludo has officially commenced his second term as Governor of Anambra State, marking a new chapter in the state’s political journey.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Awka, drew widespread attention as political leaders and dignitaries from across Nigeria gathered to witness the historic moment.

The event symbolized continuity in leadership and reaffirmed public confidence in Soludo’s administration.

The swearing-in took place at the newly upgraded Alex Ekwueme Square, a venue that has become synonymous with major state functions.

Standing before a large audience, Soludo took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim.

The ceremony was characterized by a mix of tradition, celebration, and political significance, reflecting the importance of the day for the people of Anambra.

High-profile attendees added prestige to the occasion, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing the Federal Government.

Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan were also present, underscoring the national relevance of the inauguration.

Their attendance highlighted the respect Soludo commands across political lines.

The presence of elder statesman Emeka Anyaoku and Siminalayi Fubara further demonstrated the broad support and interest in Anambra’s political direction.

Soludo’s return to office follows a decisive victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In that election, Soludo emerged as the clear winner, polling 422,664 votes. His closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, secured 99,445 votes, while Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party trailed behind with 37,753 votes.

The wide margin of victory reinforced Soludo’s popularity and political strength across the state.

A key highlight of the election was Soludo’s dominance in all 21 local government areas of Anambra State, a feat that demonstrated widespread acceptance of his leadership.

Out of the 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited to vote, while 595,298 ballots were cast. A total of 11,244 votes were declared invalid.

These figures reflect both the scale of participation and the credibility of the electoral process that returned Soludo to power.

Throughout his first term, Soludo built a reputation for pursuing reforms in governance, infrastructure, and economic development.

As Soludo begins this new tenure, expectations are high among residents who anticipate continuity in policies and the introduction of new initiatives to accelerate growth.

Many observers believe that Soludo’s second term offers an opportunity to consolidate previous achievements while addressing lingering challenges in areas such as job creation, security, and urban development.

Political analysts note that Soludo’s overwhelming electoral success was not only a reflection of his performance but also an indication of voter trust in his long-term vision for Anambra State.

His ability to secure victory across all local government areas suggests a unified mandate that transcends party lines and regional divides.

This level of support places Soludo in a strong position to implement his agenda without significant political resistance.

As Soludo settles into his second term, attention will likely focus on how effectively his administration translates campaign promises into tangible results.

Citizens and stakeholders alike will be watching closely to see how Soludo navigates the complexities of governance while maintaining the confidence that earned him re-election.

With strong backing and a renewed mandate, Soludo’s leadership is set to shape the future of Anambra State in the coming years.
