Senator Natasha Akpoti urges PDP members to unite for 2027 elections

Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prioritize reconciliation and unity following the recent judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal concerning the party’s national convention.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the senator described the ruling as a turning point for the PDP.

She noted that the decision presents an opportunity for the party to move beyond internal disputes and focus on rebuilding its structures in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

According to her, this period of reflection and strategic planning is crucial if the party is to regain its position as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that continued litigation and infighting could severely weaken the PDP’s ability to provide a strong platform for members aspiring to elective positions across the country.

She explained that the party’s leadership must now demonstrate political maturity and put the collective interest above personal ambitions to ensure a stable and united front going into the next election cycle.

“The Court of Appeal has spoken, and as a party that respects the rule of law, it is time to turn the page on litigation and focus on reconciliation and rebuilding,” she stated.

According to the senator, the PDP must channel its energy into strengthening internal democracy, restoring trust among members, and creating a transparent framework that ensures all voices within the party are heard.

The lawmaker warned that prolonged disagreements among party leaders could undermine the hopes of grassroots members who are preparing to contest elections under the PDP platform.

She stressed that individuals seeking positions in State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, the Senate, governorship, and even the presidency should not be held hostage by unresolved leadership disputes.

“Our members across the country—those aspiring to serve in various elected positions—must not become victims of prolonged disagreements among leaders,” Akpoti-Uduaghan noted.

She added that the future of the PDP depends on the willingness of its leaders to embrace reconciliation and put unity above personal differences.

The senator further called on stakeholders within the party to exhibit statesmanship by setting aside narrow interests and focusing on the collective growth of the PDP.

She argued that this approach would not only strengthen the party internally but also enhance its appeal to Nigerians who are keenly watching how the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 elections.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also highlighted the importance of conducting an inclusive and transparent national convention that aligns with the regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

She believes that a well-organized convention will restore confidence among members and reinforce the PDP’s democratic credentials.

Such a process, she stressed, would demonstrate the party’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability in its internal affairs.

“Reconciliation and unity are not just internal matters; they define how Nigerians perceive the PDP as a viable alternative for leadership at all levels,” the senator said.

She noted that by embracing these values, the party can rebuild its structures, inspire confidence among supporters, and ensure that all aspirants have a fair opportunity to contest elections under its platform.

Highlighting the need for proactive leadership, Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that the PDP must position itself as a party that listens to its members, resolves conflicts amicably, and prepares adequately for national and state elections.

She reiterated that unity among leaders is crucial for translating the party’s vision into actionable strategies that resonate with voters nationwide.

The senator concluded by reaffirming her commitment to the growth, stability, and progress of the PDP.

She encouraged party members across Nigeria to remain hopeful, actively participate in reconciliation efforts, and contribute positively to the rebuilding and repositioning of the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

By fostering cohesion, transparency, and strong leadership, Akpoti-Uduaghan believes the PDP can reclaim its status as a credible political force capable of offering effective governance to Nigerians.
