The Ibadan Circular Road Corridor Residents today proudly convened a landmark National Conference, bringing together key stakeholders, community leaders, policymakers and concerned citizens to deliberate on critical issues affecting the corridor and to collectively chart a progressive pathway toward sustainable development, equity and justice.
This conference is not merely a convergence of voices but a profound demonstration of civic responsibility, unity of purpose and an unwavering commitment to the collective advancement of Ibadan land and Oyo State at large.
We seize this opportunity to respectfully draw the attention of key stakeholders and distinguished personalities whose leadership and influence are vital to the realization of our shared aspirations. We particularly acknowledge the efforts of the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whose infrastructural strides have significantly shaped ongoing discourse surrounding the Ibadan Circular Road project.
We also pay profound respect to the revered traditional institution ably led by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja ARUSA I whose wisdom, fatherly guidance and enduring commitment to peace and unity remain unmatched to the progress of Ibadan land.
Furthermore, we recognize the pivotal role of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes as custodians of Ibadan’s heritage and the collective voice of its people. We call for their continued advocacy and proactive intervention in matters affecting the welfare and rights of residents within the proposed corridor expansion.
As we look ahead, we urge the incoming administration to prioritize early stakeholder engagement, ensure policy continuity and uphold a people-centered approach to governance—anchored on fairness, transparency and inclusiveness.
Our Key Requests Are as Follows:
- That the government honours the original acquisition framework of 75 metres on both sides as lawfully established and gazetted during the administration of His Excellency, Senator Rashidi Ladoja in 2006.
- That adequate compensation be paid to all affected property owners within the right of way prior to any demolition, including those whose properties were previously demolished but remain uncompensated.
- That existing communities beyond the gazetted 75 metres on both sides be preserved and excluded from any further or expanded acquisition.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all distinguished guests, members of the press, security personnel and most importantly, the affected Residents whose cooperation and steadfast commitment to peaceful engagement have made this conference both possible and impactful.
