Iyana Isashi shooting leaves community grieving as man dies from gun attack. Residents link killing to nightclub dispute, police vow investigation.
The tragic Iyana Isashi shooting has thrown residents of Ojo Local Government Area in Lagos State into mourning after suspected gunmen attacked and killed a young man identified simply as Alex.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Friday when Alex, popularly known as Fleximore, was reportedly on his way to meet a friend.
Witnesses say he had just returned from work before stepping out again when two men on a motorcycle approached him. Without warning, one of them pulled out a firearm and shot him at close range.
According to a resident, who asked not to be named, the attack happened suddenly and sent shockwaves through the neighborhood.
“Alex lived in Cele Niza here in Iyana Isashi. That night, he had barely come back from work before leaving again.
“As he was walking, two men on a bike stopped him, and one immediately fired at him. The sound of the gunshot made people rush to the scene, where they found him bleeding heavily while the gunmen sped away,” the witness said.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Doctors battled to stabilize him, but he slipped into a coma.
Despite days of medical care, Alex could not recover from his injuries. On Wednesday morning, residents received the heartbreaking confirmation that he had died.
“We lost him this morning. He had been in a coma since Friday. The doctors tried everything, but unfortunately he did not make it,” another resident told reporters.
The news of Alex’s death has devastated friends and family, who described him as easy-going, humble, and peace-loving. Many said the Iyana Isashi shooting has left an irreplaceable gap in the community.
Speculations surrounding the motive for the killing intensified after reports emerged that Alex had been involved in an altercation at a nightclub in the community the night before his death.
Quadri, a resident who claimed to have spoken with Alex’s friends, said the fight may have been the reason for the attack.
“Some of his friends said he fought with some guys at a club. It started as an argument and later escalated. That was unusual for Alex because he never caused trouble.
“He was an easy-going person. That is why people believe the Iyana Isashi shooting may be connected to the fight at the nightclub,” Quadri explained.
This revelation has raised concerns that the killing may have been a retaliatory act, further highlighting the dangers of unresolved disputes in nightlife settings across Lagos.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that she was not immediately aware of the incident but would reach out to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to confirm details.

“I am not aware of the incident, but I will call the DPO in the area to confirm,” she said.
Residents, however, expressed frustration at the slow police response and urged authorities to intensify investigations to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.
The Iyana Isashi shooting is the latest in a worrying trend of gun-related attacks in Lagos. Motorcycle-riding gunmen have increasingly been used to execute assaults, robberies, and even targeted killings, leaving communities fearful.
Security experts have warned that Lagos could face greater threats if such attacks continue unchecked. They have urged the state government to deploy more patrol teams and surveillance equipment in hotspots like Ojo to deter criminals.
Community leaders have also advised residents to exercise caution, especially at night, and avoid confrontations that may escalate into violence.
Alex’s sudden death has left a painful mark on Iyana Isashi. Neighbors say he was well-liked and hardworking, with no history of violence or crime. His burial arrangements are already underway, with family and friends still in shock over the tragedy.
“This is something we will not forget quickly. He didn’t deserve such a death. The community is mourning deeply,” another resident said.
As Lagos grapples with growing insecurity, residents are demanding that justice be served in the Iyana Isashi shooting case. Many insist that the killers must not go unpunished, warning that impunity will only embolden others to commit similar crimes.
Until answers are found and arrests are made, the shadow of Alex’s killing will continue to loom over Iyana Isashi, serving as a grim reminder of the urgent need to tackle gun violence in Lagos communities.
