The internal leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that the party National Convention scheduled for Abuja will proceed without interruption, despite circulating claims of legal disputes and factional objections within the party.

The position was made clear by the party’s National Caretaker Committee, which insisted that preparations for the event have reached an advanced stage and that no judicial directive has been served to halt the exercise.

The committee maintained that the ongoing controversy being circulated in some media spaces does not reflect any officially verified legal action.

At the centre of the clarification is the PDP National Convention, which the caretaker leadership described as a critical step in repositioning the party and strengthening internal democratic processes ahead of future elections.

According to the committee, there is no evidence within its possession suggesting that an appeal has been filed by any faction, including the Tanimu Turaki group, challenging recent court pronouncements relating to the party’s internal disagreements.

It further stated that the PDP National Convention remains fully intact and unaffected by such claims.

The National Publicity Secretary of the committee, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, explained during a pre-convention briefing that the leadership would only respond to formally communicated court documents, not rumours or unverified reports circulating on social media platforms.

He stressed that, as far as the committee is concerned, no court order has been received from any competent authority restraining the planned gathering.

He therefore urged party members and the public to disregard what he described as misinformation aimed at creating confusion ahead of the PDP National Convention.

Mohammed further noted that all logistical, administrative, and procedural arrangements have been completed, assuring that delegates from across the country are expected to participate fully.

He emphasized that the PDP National Convention will be inclusive, accommodating members from different political alignments within the party structure.

He added that political participation within a large party like the PDP naturally involves differing interests, but this does not invalidate the legitimacy of the process.

According to him, several prominent figures who had previously not been aligned with any faction have indicated willingness to attend the PDP National Convention.

Among those expected are former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, alongside other lawmakers and senior stakeholders across the country.

Their anticipated participation, according to the committee, reflects growing acceptance and broad-based engagement ahead of the PDP National Convention.

The caretaker committee also reiterated that the exercise is fully backed by the party’s constitution and aligns with legal provisions governing political party administration in Nigeria.

It maintained that the PDP National Convention should not be compared with other disputed gatherings, arguing that this particular process is structured, lawful, and transparent.

Mohammed emphasized that allegations suggesting otherwise are unfounded and do not reflect the internal realities of the party’s preparations.

He insisted that the PDP National Convention is being conducted with full adherence to due process and internal guidelines, including screening and delegate coordination.

On concerns about unity, he acknowledged that not all members may share identical political positions, but insisted that the party remains open to reconciliation and dialogue.

He noted that efforts to reconcile aggrieved members are ongoing, even as preparations for the PDP National Convention continue without disruption.

He also warned against attempts to destabilize the process, stating that while the party welcomes constructive engagement, it will not tolerate actions capable of undermining stability or preventing the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention.

In addition, the committee called on delegates, observers, and stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly during the event.

It described the PDP National Convention as a defining moment that would shape the party’s direction and strengthen its role in national politics.

Earlier in his address, Mohammed characterized the gathering as a reaffirmation of democratic values within the PDP, noting that the PDP National Convention represents both continuity and renewal for the party’s internal structure.

He explained that extensive preparations have been made to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and orderliness, adding that all relevant committees have been working to guarantee a smooth and successful outcome.

The leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to operating within constitutional and legal frameworks, stressing that the PDP remains committed to democratic governance and institutional discipline.

Finally, the caretaker committee expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his role in ensuring a conducive environment for hosting the event in Abuja.

It praised his support in maintaining order and facilitating arrangements that will enable the PDP National Convention to proceed as planned.

In conclusion, the committee maintained that the PDP National Convention will go ahead as scheduled, describing it as lawful, inclusive, and fully prepared despite ongoing political narratives surrounding the party’s internal dynamics.
