PDP BoT denounces the violent invasion of the party Secretariat, reaffirms the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention, and backs the newly elected leadership.
The PDP BoT has issued a firm and detailed condemnation of the violent disruption at the Peoples Democratic Party National Secretariat in Abuja, describing the incident as a deliberate assault on internal democracy and an attempt to undermine the authority established at the recent Ibadan Convention.

According to the PDP BoT, the attack was carried out by expelled elements who acted alongside compromised security personnel and hired thugs seeking to forcefully seize control of the complex.
In its statement signed by Chairman H.E. Senator Adolphus Wabara, Ph.D, the Board explained that the invaders targeted the newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) led by National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The officials, including Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed and Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, were prevented from gaining access to the Secretariat as thugs hurled violence and security operatives fired tear gas at the governors and party leaders.
Adding to the tension, the expelled Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, arrived on the scene with a heavy security entourage, a move the Board considered an open display of support for the invaders.
The Board expressed disappointment that a serving government official would appear in solidarity with individuals attempting to destabilize the party’s legitimate leadership.
Despite the intimidation, the Board commended the courage of governors, NWC members, BoT members, and loyal supporters who boldly resisted the invaders and safeguarded the integrity of the party headquarters.
Their resilience, the Board said, prevented a deeper crisis that could have further endangered the party’s democratic stability.
Reaffirming its position, the Board emphasized that the leadership that emerged at the Ibadan Convention of November 15–16, 2025, remains the authentic, lawful, and nationally endorsed authority of the party.
The Board insisted that the convention was conducted in compliance with the PDP Constitution, Electoral Act, and all regulatory guidelines.
Delegates from across the country freely and overwhelmingly chose the new NWC, giving the leadership full legitimacy.
The PDP BoT strongly rejected attempts by expelled individuals to discredit the Ibadan Convention.
The Board noted that such comments and media appearances are deliberate efforts to generate confusion, weaken internal structures, and derail preparations for national elections.
These actions, it said, amount to a direct attack on the principles of transparency and order that the PDP upholds.
Calling for accountability, the Board urged the Inspector-General of Police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the invasion, including the conduct of security operatives and all other parties involved.
According to the Board, the sanctity of Nigeria’s democracy depends on the neutrality and professionalism of law enforcement institutions, which must not be influenced by partisan agendas.
Positioning itself as the conscience of the party, the Board pledged its continued commitment to protecting the unity and values of the PDP.
It encouraged the new NWC to remain focused, disciplined, and undeterred by provocations aimed at distracting the leadership from its mission.
With the 2027 general elections ahead, the Board stressed the importance of unity, stability, and strategic coordination.
It reaffirmed that no level of intimidation or sabotage will undermine the mandate granted at the Ibadan Convention, nor the determination of the leadership to rebuild and reposition the party nationwide.
In closing, the Board emphasized once more that the PDP BoT stands with the elected NWC, supports the decisions made by party delegates, and remains dedicated to preserving the democratic integrity of the organization.
