Oyo APC chieftain urges national support for Tinubu, stressing continuity as vital for Nigeria’s reforms, stability, and long-term development toward the 2027 election.
A senior figure in the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Gbenga Obilade, has appealed to Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu, declaring that the country’s ongoing reforms can only achieve their full potential if the President remains in office beyond the 2027 election.
Obilade made the remarks during a press briefing organised by the Gbenga Obilade Foundation, where he presented details of the foundation’s community empowerment projects and long-term social intervention initiatives.
Speaking before party members, community leaders, and development stakeholders, Obilade emphasised that Nigeria is currently undergoing a structural reorientation under Tinubu’s leadership, describing the process as foundational to rebuilding national institutions.
According to him, the President’s policies are part of a long-term development agenda that requires time, stability, and—most especially—continuity for the results to fully manifest.
He argued that many transformative economic and social policies around the world succeeded because societies allowed administrations the time needed to complete multi-phase reforms rather than interrupting them halfway.
Obilade explained that Tinubu’s governance approach has prioritised infrastructure, education, economic diversification, agricultural repositioning, and community revitalisation.
He pointed to the administration’s work on roads, energy access, healthcare rehabilitation, and the establishment of new federal universities as evidence that the government is laying the groundwork for a more self-reliant and resilient nation.
Such efforts, he maintained, demonstrate a sincere commitment to building a Nigeria that future generations can depend on.
He highlighted the administration’s investment in the welfare of young Nigerians, especially the creation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), designed to provide indigent students with loans for tertiary education.
To Obilade, this single intervention has the potential to permanently alter the future of millions of Nigerian youths and strengthen the nation’s knowledge economy.
He praised the President for recognising that nations develop faster when education is democratized and made accessible to all, regardless of background.
Obilade also acknowledged Tinubu’s focus on agriculture, including the recapitalisation of the Bank of Agriculture with N1.5 trillion—an investment he described as bold and timely.
According to him, the step will reposition agriculture as a viable pathway for job creation, rural development, and food security.
He said policies like these show Tinubu’s dedication to renewing the productive sectors of the economy and enabling Nigerians to build sustainable livelihoods.
At the press conference, Obilade described education as the backbone of national transformation.
Through the Gbenga Obilade Foundation, he has sponsored scholarship programmes, mentorship schemes, youth leadership clinics, and community empowerment initiatives targeting underserved groups across Oyo State.
These interventions, he explained, are intended to complement the federal government’s efforts by tackling social and economic gaps at the local level.
He mentioned that true political leadership involves responding to the real needs of the people, understanding their struggles, and designing programmes that uplift communities.
He emphasised that a leader who listens to the community and responds through practical investments in people is one who deserves long-term support.
Obilade reiterated that Tinubu’s leadership style is rooted in empathy, strategic thinking, and the ability to make tough decisions necessary for long-term progress.
For this reason, he said, Nigerians must focus on the bigger picture rather than immediate discomforts created by economic restructuring.
Mr. Mojeed Olaoya, another influential figure within the Oyo APC, also addressed attendees and commended the foundation’s activities.
According to him, the level of grassroots engagement demonstrated by the organisation is crucial for sustaining political mobilisation, enhancing party loyalty, and preparing the ground for electoral victory.
Olaoya urged APC members and stakeholders to identify potential obstacles that might threaten Tinubu’s re-election journey and develop strategies to overcome them ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The event also saw strong expressions of support from the youth and women leaders of the Oyo APC.
They pledged to intensify mobilisation campaigns, increase political participation among young people, and maintain a united front as the nation approaches another major political transition.
They described President Tinubu as a leader whose policies resonate with their vision for a more structured, equitable, and opportunity-driven Nigeria.
Throughout the discussions, speakers repeatedly stressed the need for national continuity, insisting that Nigeria requires a stable environment to complete the reforms currently underway.
They argued that many of the present challenges faced by Nigerians are temporary consequences of recalibration and will gradually give way to economic recovery and social stability.
Interrupting the administration prematurely, they said, would risk undoing the progress already achieved.
Obilade concluded by calling on citizens across all geopolitical zones—not only the Southwest—to prioritise national unity, informed civic participation, and development-driven politics.
He maintained that the future of Nigeria rests on the decisions made today and urged the public to avoid political sentiments that could derail the nation’s long-term goals.
