Oyo Police partner Mogajis in Ibadan to strengthen community policing, improve intelligence sharing and enhance grassroots security across Oyo State.
In furtherance of its commitment to community partnership, intelligence-led policing, and enhanced public safety across Oyo State, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, today engaged key stakeholders in Ibadanland, comprising the Mogajis, traditional leadership representatives, and members of the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative.
This was revealed in a press statement signed by DSP Alayande Olayinka anipr, Mnisma, titled “Re: strengthening community policing through engagement with Mogajis and Ibadan peace and security initiative. “
The delegation was led by Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, President of all Mogajis in Ibadanland; Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade, Coordinator of the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative; and Baale F. D. Ige, Head of all Baales in Ibadanland.
During the engagement, the stakeholders expressed profound appreciation to the Oyo State Police Command for its consistent support, swift response to distress calls, and sustained collaboration with community structures in maintaining peace and security across Ibadanland and beyond.
They further explained that the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative was established to complement the intelligence network of the Nigeria Police Force by providing credible, timely, and actionable information to support effective policing operations.
They noted that the success of modern policing depends significantly on strong community partnership and accurate local intelligence.

The stakeholders also recalled the remarks of His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, HRM Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, delivered during the graduation ceremony of newly inducted members of the initiative.
The Olubadan emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration with security agencies, noting that a deep understanding of local terrain remains critical to effective policing operations, and that no group is better positioned to provide such insight than local residents within the communities.
They assured the Commissioner of Police that members of the initiative have undergone relevant training and are fully prepared to work closely with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in the collection and dissemination of credible intelligence to enhance public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, in his response, appreciated the initiative and commended His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, for his foresight and continuous support for security collaboration in the State.
He also expressed gratitude to the Mogajis and members of the Ibadan Peace and Security Initiative for their commitment to strengthening community policing and supporting the efforts of the Command.
He further applauded the leadership of the Mogajis for their sustained role in fostering peace, unity, and cooperation between traditional institutions and security agencies.
The Commissioner reiterated that effective policing thrives on trust, partnership, and timely intelligence sharing, and assured that the Command remains committed to deepening such collaborations for improved security outcomes.
The peak of the event was the “Know Your DPO” segment, during which the phone numbers and contact details of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders were formally shared with the participating operatives and Mogajis whose areas of responsibility fall within their respective jurisdictions.
This initiative is aimed at enhancing rapid communication, improving response time to security incidents, and strengthening grassroots policing collaboration.
