The Nigerian Army has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing security operations in Benue State, successfully rescuing a kidnapped woman and arresting two suspects during coordinated, intelligence-driven raids across affected communities.
The development was confirmed in an official statement issued on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, by the Acting Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu.
He noted that the operation reflects renewed efforts by the Nigerian Army to dismantle criminal networks and restore calm in troubled parts of the state.
According to the statement, the rescue operation took place in Tse-Ubena village, located in the Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. Troops acted swiftly after receiving credible intelligence about ongoing kidnapping activities in the area.
Working in close collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, the soldiers launched a targeted raid on a suspected hideout used by the kidnappers.
During the operation, a 28-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Member Ityavber was safely rescued. Security officials disclosed that the victim had been held captive before the intervention.
Following her rescue, she was immediately debriefed and provided with necessary medical and psychological support. Authorities confirmed that she has since been reunited with her family.
In a separate but related operation carried out the same day, troops moved against suspected criminal elements operating in Gwer West Local Government Area.
Acting on actionable intelligence about the presence of armed groups within Mbapa and Mbabuande communities, soldiers under Sector 1 mobilised from Bilawa-Jor and Naka to conduct clearance operations.
Upon arrival, the troops carried out a comprehensive search of the area, leading to the discovery of an abandoned structure believed to have served as a criminal hideout.
The operation was extended through nearby locations, including areas along the River Akpako, where further exploitation efforts resulted in the arrest of two suspects.
Military sources confirmed that the arrested individuals are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering the wider network behind the criminal activities.
The Nigerian Army emphasised that intelligence gathering and follow-up operations are still in progress to ensure that all members of the syndicate are identified and brought to justice.
The statement highlighted that the success of the missions was largely due to timely intelligence and the professionalism displayed by troops on the ground.
It added that such coordinated efforts are critical in addressing the evolving security challenges facing communities in Benue State.
Reacting to the development, the Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their swift response and discipline during the operations.
He praised their commitment to duty and reiterated the importance of sustained vigilance in the fight against insecurity.
He further assured residents that the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains fully committed to protecting lives and property across the region.
According to him, maintaining stability is especially crucial at this time as rural communities prepare for the upcoming farming season, which is vital to local livelihoods and food security.
Security analysts have noted that Benue State has experienced recurring security concerns, including clashes and criminal activities, which have disrupted normal life in several communities.
The recent operations are therefore seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen security presence and deter further incidents.
Local residents have also expressed cautious optimism following the successful rescue and arrests, urging security forces to sustain the momentum.
Community leaders called for continuous patrols, improved intelligence sharing, and stronger collaboration between civilians and security agencies.
Meanwhile, authorities reiterated that members of the public have a vital role to play in supporting ongoing operations.
They encouraged residents to provide timely and accurate information that could assist in identifying suspicious activities within their communities.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed that it will not relent in its mission to neutralise criminal elements and ensure that peace is restored across Benue State and beyond.
With continued operations and community support, security officials remain hopeful of achieving long-term stability in the region.
