Governor Abdullahi Sule has reshuffled his cabinet, dropping six commissioners as Nasarawa seeks fresh ideas, stronger governance and improved revenue.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has approved a cabinet reshuffle that will see six commissioners leave their current positions as the administration seeks to introduce new energy and ideas into its governance structure.
The changes were announced in Lafia by the Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, following a meeting of the State Executive Council.
The affected commissioners were responsible for six key areas of government, including Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, as well as Security and Sundry Matters.
Although the decision means the officials will no longer continue in their respective commissioner roles, the state government said their exit from the cabinet should not be viewed as an indication that they performed poorly while in office.
Speaking to journalists after the Executive Council meeting, Magaji explained that the reshuffle was part of a broader strategy to strengthen the administration and ensure that it remains effective in delivering on its commitments to residents.
According to him, the affected commissioners had made valuable contributions to the government and were recognised for their dedication and commitment during their time in office.

He noted that the decision to ask them to step aside was largely driven by the need to create space for fresh perspectives and a renewed approach to governance as the administration moves into the final phase of its tenure.
The SSG said the government was interested in ensuring that its policies and programmes received the necessary momentum to achieve meaningful results before the end of the current administration.
He described the exercise as an effort to “rejig” the system and bring additional vitality into the machinery of government.
Rather than viewing the development as a dismissal based on poor performance, Magaji said the affected officials remained valued members of the administration.
He disclosed that the former commissioners could still be considered for other government assignments in the future, suggesting that their removal from the cabinet does not necessarily mark the end of their involvement in the state government.
The government is expected to announce the names of those who will take over the affected ministries through the appropriate official channels.
The reshuffle comes at a period when the Nasarawa State Government is seeking to consolidate its programmes and improve its capacity to generate revenue internally.
During the Executive Council meeting, the government also examined possible ways of increasing the state’s internally generated revenue by taking advantage of its mineral resources, particularly the growing investment in lithium.
Nasarawa has increasingly attracted attention from investors because of its mineral deposits and its emerging position in the country’s lithium industry.
The SSG said the state was looking at how to maximise the economic opportunities presented by developments in the sector.
His comments followed the recent inauguration of a major lithium processing facility in Nasarawa State. The project was officially inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The government believes that developments in the lithium sector could provide a new source of economic activity for the state if properly harnessed.
Beyond the potential revenue benefits, increased investment in mineral processing could also create jobs, encourage the development of supporting businesses and attract additional investors to Nasarawa.
The state administration is therefore expected to continue exploring ways to turn its natural resources into sustainable economic opportunities while improving its internally generated revenue.
The cabinet changes and discussions around the lithium industry point to the government’s broader focus on strengthening its administrative structure and expanding the state’s economic base.
With the affected commissioners expected to leave their current portfolios and new officials likely to be appointed, attention will now shift to the next phase of the administration’s plans.
The incoming commissioners, once announced, will be expected to quickly settle into their respective ministries and support the government in implementing its agenda.
For Governor Sule’s administration, the reshuffle provides an opportunity to bring new perspectives into key areas of governance while maintaining continuity in its policies.
The decision also comes with an expectation that the changes will translate into improved coordination, faster implementation of government projects and better delivery of services to the people.
As the administration approaches the final stretch of its tenure, the government will be under pressure to demonstrate the impact of its programmes and ensure that ongoing initiatives are completed or advanced.
The latest cabinet reshuffle is therefore being positioned as part of that effort, with the government hoping that a combination of fresh leadership, renewed administrative focus and greater attention to revenue generation will help Nasarawa achieve more in the remaining period of the administration.
