Mikel Arteta begins a new era at Arsenal after agreeing a new contract with the Premier League champions, with the manager now targeting sustained domestic success and a first Champions League title.

“We think we have a chance here to dominate,” Kroenke said in May, highlighting the club’s ambitions following their Premier League success.
Arteta’s new contract provides continuity at a time when Arsenal believe their squad is capable of competing for major honours on multiple fronts.
The manager’s position is also strengthened by the development of players who are now entering or approaching their peak years, with several members of the squad aged between 24 and 28.

When the trio were fit throughout the 2023/24 campaign, Arsenal scored a club-record number of goals. Their reunion has already produced encouraging early returns, with the three players combining for 10 goals during the first seven matches of the current campaign.
Arsenal also produced an attacking statement in their Champions League opener against Napoli. Although they scored only once, they generated 4.05 expected goals, their highest recorded figure in the competition.
Champions League Success Remains a Major Target
The Champions League represents another major challenge for Arteta as he begins his new contract.
Arsenal reached only their second Champions League final last season, meaning another deep European run would provide the manager with an opportunity to improve on the club’s previous continental achievements.
Winning the competition would also represent the next major step in Arsenal’s development under Arteta.
The manager has already overseen a progression from a struggling Premier League side to domestic champions and Champions League finalists.
Arsenal’s Young Players Add Another Dimension
The continued development of Arsenal’s academy players provides another source of optimism for the club.
Max Dowman and Marli Salmon are among the latest young players to benefit from the environment established at London Colney.
Their emergence gives Arteta additional options while also providing Arsenal with a pathway for developing players capable of contributing to the first team.
The club will still need to use future transfer windows to strengthen the squad, particularly in attack, but academy development could complement further recruitment.
Arteta’s new contract therefore arrives at a significant point in Arsenal’s evolution.
