Lagos State begins major Lekki Ajah road rehabilitation, improving traffic flow, safety, and road quality for commuters from Nov 15, 2025, to July 2026.
The Lagos State Government is set to commence a major rehabilitation of the Lekki Ajah road, one of the city’s busiest corridors. Scheduled to begin Saturday, November 15, 2025, the project will run until Wednesday, July 15, 2026, aiming to improve road quality, commuter safety, and traffic flow along the Lekki–Ajah axis.

According to Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, preliminary works have already started. The Lekki Ajah road rehabilitation will be executed in two phases to minimize traffic disruptions while ensuring efficient progress.
Phase One: This phase covers the stretch from Lekki First Toll Gate to Lekki Second Toll Gate, divided into seven sections. Construction will involve closing one lane at a time while allowing vehicles to use the alternate lane.
Once a section is complete, work will move to the next, ensuring continuous movement towards Lekki and Ajah.
Phase Two: The second phase extends from Lekki Second Toll Gate to Ajah Under Bridge and includes four sections.
Traffic from Ajah to Lekki will be directed to one lane while construction continues on the other.
Motorists heading to Ajah will experience uninterrupted flow, minimizing inconvenience during the project.
Mr. Osiyemi urged motorists and residents to exercise patience and follow traffic directions, as certain portions of the road will experience partial closures during the rehabilitation.
He emphasized that the project is part of the government’s broader effort to improve Lagos roads and ensure smoother movement along the Lekki Ajah corridor.
The Lekki Ajah road project includes not just resurfacing but also drainage improvements, proper signage, better lighting, and enhanced road markings.
These upgrades aim to reduce flooding, improve safety, and provide commuters with a more reliable driving experience.
Local residents and businesses along the corridor have welcomed the initiative, noting that improved road conditions are expected to boost commerce, reduce travel time, and attract investment in the Lekki–Ajah area.
Public transport operators, logistics providers, and daily commuters are all set to benefit from smoother traffic and safer road conditions.
Urban planning experts have praised the Lagos State Government’s phased approach, which allows one lane to remain operational while work continues.
This method is widely recognized as one of the most effective ways to manage traffic during large-scale road projects.
The Lekki Ajah road rehabilitation also reflects Lagos State’s broader vision for smart, sustainable urban mobility.
By addressing traffic bottlenecks and upgrading road quality, the project seeks to transform this key corridor into a safer and more efficient route for thousands of daily commuters.
Authorities have emphasized that motorists should plan their journeys carefully, allowing extra travel time and following diversion signs.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on hand to monitor traffic flow and ensure smooth movement during construction.
Community engagement is encouraged, with residents urged to report hazards or concerns along the Lekki Ajah road. Such collaboration helps ensure the project delivers long-lasting improvements for both drivers and pedestrians.
The Lekki Ajah road project represents a major step forward in Lagos road rehabilitation, improving safety, traffic efficiency, and infrastructure quality.
Completion is expected by July 15, 2026, promising commuters a modern, reliable, and safe travel experience across one of Lagos’ most important corridors.
