Lagos police arrest suspect “Super M” with pistol

The Lagos Police have arrested a 30-year-old man identified as Dare Shogaolu, widely known by the nickname “Super M,” during a routine patrol operation in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

The arrest was carried out by officers attached to the Mushin Division during a stop-and-search exercise aimed at curbing crime and maintaining security in the densely populated community.

According to authorities, the incident occurred late in the evening of March 5, 2026, along the LUTH Road axis while police operatives were conducting a patrol as part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos Police to strengthen security surveillance across the state.

Police sources explained that the suspect drew the attention of officers after he was seen behaving in a suspicious manner while carrying a white and orange-yellow polythene bag.

His unusual movement and conduct reportedly prompted officers on patrol to stop him for questioning and conduct a search.

In a statement released on Thursday, the spokesperson of the command, Abimbola Adebisi, explained that the patrol team acted swiftly after noticing the suspicious behaviour.

The officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Mushin Division, approached the suspect and inspected the bag he was holding.

During the search, officers reportedly discovered a locally fabricated pistol concealed among other belongings in the bag.

The discovery immediately raised concerns among the officers, who proceeded to detain the suspect for further questioning.

Aside from the firearm, the police also recovered other items from the suspect, including a black leather purse, charms believed to be used for protection or intimidation, and three pairs of slippers.

Authorities said the presence of these items is currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to the Lagos Police, preliminary findings suggest that the suspect may have been linked to certain disturbances and suspected criminal activities within the Mushin community.

Although investigations are still at an early stage, police officials indicated that intelligence gathered so far points to possible connections between the suspect and a group believed to be involved in illegal activities in the area.

Investigators are now working to determine whether the suspect was acting alone or operating as part of a larger network.

Police authorities confirmed that efforts are already underway to identify and track down other individuals who may be connected to the suspected criminal group.

The Lagos Police noted that the arrest forms part of a broader security strategy aimed at reducing crime and ensuring public safety in various parts of the state.

Stop-and-search operations, according to the command, remain an important tactic used by law enforcement to intercept criminals, recover weapons, and deter illegal activities before they escalate.

Mushin, one of the busiest districts in Lagos, has long been known for its commercial activities and large population.

Security agencies have continued to intensify patrols and surveillance within the area to prevent crimes such as robbery, cult-related clashes, and street violence.

Police authorities stated that the suspect is currently in custody while detectives continue their investigation.

During this period, officers will also examine the recovered items and gather further evidence to establish the suspect’s level of involvement in criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property throughout the state.

He emphasized that the police will continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and patrol operations in order to keep communities safe.

The commissioner also called on residents to support security efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements or activities in their neighbourhoods.

According to him, effective policing requires collaboration between law enforcement agencies and members of the public.

Residents were therefore encouraged to share credible information that could assist in preventing crime or helping investigators track down suspects.

The command reiterated that timely intelligence from the public often plays a critical role in the successful arrest of criminals and the recovery of illegal weapons.

Security analysts say such arrests highlight the importance of routine patrols and stop-and-search operations, particularly in busy urban centres like Lagos where criminal elements sometimes attempt to blend into the population.

As investigations continue, the Lagos Police have assured residents that anyone found to be connected to the suspect or involved in criminal activities will be identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
