Kano Police operations intensify as officers intercept explosive materials and illicit drugs in coordinated raids, reinforcing intelligence-led policing across the state.
The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major security breakthrough following the interception of suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs in two separate, intelligence-driven operations carried out in different parts of the state.
The development underscores the growing effectiveness of Kano Police operations in curbing criminal activities and enhancing public safety.
The operations, which were conducted by officers attached to the Anti-Daba Unit and the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division, were disclosed in an official statement released on Thursday, January 15, 2026, by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to him, the successes were achieved through actionable intelligence and proactive surveillance strategies.
CSP Kiyawa explained that the recent achievements align with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, who has consistently emphasized improved intelligence gathering and intelligence-led policing as critical tools for effective law enforcement across the country.
He noted that Kano Police operations have continued to evolve in response to emerging security threats.
The first operation took place on January 13, 2026, when officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division executed a search warrant at a residential building located in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
The operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police following credible intelligence suggesting the presence of suspicious materials at the location.
During the search, officers discovered two large sacks containing items suspected to be linked to criminal activities.
To ensure proper handling and identification, a specialised team from the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit was immediately invited to conduct a technical assessment of the materials.
The examination revealed that one of the sacks contained six rolls of detonating cords, while the second sack held 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, along with 220 sachets of tablets believed to be Exol.
The discovery of both explosive-related items and illicit drugs in the same location raised serious security concerns, prompting an expanded investigation.
Authorities confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the materials.
In a separate but equally significant operation, officers attached to the Anti-Daba Unit of the Command intercepted a commercial tricycle rider during an intelligence-led surveillance patrol at Sani Mainagge Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area.
The patrol team became suspicious after observing the tricycle transporting unusually heavy bags under questionable circumstances.
Upon inspection, the officers recovered three bags filled with materials suspected to pose a security risk.
Once again, experts from the EOD-CBRN Unit were deployed to conduct a detailed assessment.
The materials were confirmed to be electric detonators, numbering approximately 3,700 pieces, highlighting the scale and seriousness of the attempted movement.
The interception led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Ibrahim Garba, popularly known as “Manyan Baki,” a 49-year-old indigene of Zamfara State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect confessed to facilitating the transportation of the explosive materials from Nasarawa State to other undisclosed destinations.
This revelation further emphasized the importance of sustained Kano Police operations in disrupting criminal supply chains.
Police authorities noted that investigations are still in progress to identify other individuals connected to the movement and storage of the intercepted items.
The Command has assured residents that no effort will be spared in ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and dedication of the officers involved.
He described the outcome as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained crime prevention in Kano.
CP Bakori also called on members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by remaining vigilant and promptly reporting suspicious activities, movements, or objects.
He stressed that community cooperation remains a critical component of effective Kano Police operations and overall security management.
