Troops arrest suspected ISWAP spy and two logistics couriers in Borno, disrupting terror supply chains in intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recorded a major breakthrough in ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Borno State following the arrest of a suspected ISWAP informant and two alleged logistics couriers linked to insurgent supply activities across the North-East.

Military authorities confirmed that the coordinated arrests were carried out in separate intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling both active fighters and the support structures sustaining insurgent groups, including ISWAP networks operating around the Lake Chad Basin axis.

Suspected ISWAP informant arrested at Kekeno-Monguno checkpoint

In the first operation, troops of the 19 Brigade arrested a 26-year-old suspect, Mustapha Mohammed, at the Kekeno-Monguno checkpoint on June 19, 2026, following actionable intelligence indicating suspected collaboration with terrorist elements.

Security sources disclosed that the suspect is believed to have been operating as an ISWAP informant, allegedly gathering sensitive information on troop movement, military positioning, and operational activities within the area.

Preliminary investigations further suggest that the suspect may have been involved in intelligence support activities linked to planned attacks targeting military personnel deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kekeno.

Military officials said the arrest was part of a broader surveillance and intelligence operation designed to detect infiltration attempts and prevent coordinated assaults on security formations.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing intensive interrogation, with investigators examining possible communication channels, accomplices, and broader connections within ISWAP networks.

Two suspected logistics couriers intercepted in separate operations

In a related development, troops of the 162 Amphibious Battalion intercepted and arrested two suspected logistics couriers, Ibrahim Muhammad and Saidu Abdulazeez, during a checkpoint operation along the Mandaragirau–Sabon Gari axis in Borno State.

The operation took place at about 3:00 p.m. on June 20 as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt insurgent mobility corridors and cut off supply chains believed to support ISWAP and Boko Haram cells operating in the region.

According to military sources, the suspects were flagged during routine security screening before a search of their vehicle revealed multiple items suspected to be linked to insurgent logistics operations.

Recovered items include a red Volkswagen Golf vehicle, clothing materials, mobile phones, a public address system, a school bag, a vacuum flask, an OPay debit card, and several transaction receipts.

Security officials stated that the nature of the recovered materials suggests possible coordination of supply deliveries and financial transactions linked to insurgent facilitators operating within the North-East theatre.

Intelligence-led operations target ISWAP support networks

Military authorities emphasized that the arrests form part of a sustained intelligence-led campaign targeting not only armed fighters but also informants, financiers, and logistics networks supporting ISWAP operations.
