INEC extends PVC collection in Anambra until November 2

INEC extends PVC collection in Anambra to November 2, allowing voters extra time to collect their cards before the November 8 governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved a PVC collection extension in Anambra State, giving eligible voters extra days to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

The extension now runs until November 2, providing a crucial opportunity for citizens to secure their voting rights.

Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity in Anambra, disclosed the development in a statement released on Monday in Awka.

She explained that the decision followed a commission meeting held on October 27 and came in response to appeals from citizens, community leaders, and stakeholders requesting additional time for voters to collect their PVCs.

“The INEC has approved the PVC collection extension in Anambra from October 29 to November 2,” Mrs. Eta-Messi said.

The PVC collection extension is crucial for ensuring that all registered voters can participate in the governorship election. The Permanent Voter Card remains the only valid document allowing citizens to vote, and without it, eligible voters would be disenfranchised.

Voter turnout in past elections has often been affected by logistical challenges and limited collection periods. By extending the deadline, INEC is addressing these obstacles and promoting wider participation in the electoral process.

Mrs. Eta-Messi emphasized that INEC remains committed to inclusiveness, transparency, and accessibility.

“This decision ensures that no eligible voter is left behind and reflects our dedication to facilitating a smooth electoral process,” she said.

Eligible voters are required to collect their PVCs in person at designated centers across the state’s 326 Registration Areas (Wards).

The exercise covers those who registered during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and others who registered in previous phases but have not yet received their cards.

INEC has strictly prohibited collection by proxy to prevent impersonation and maintain electoral integrity. Voters must present a valid form of identification and verify their registration details before receiving their PVC.

The PVC collection extension has been welcomed by civil society organizations, community leaders, and youth groups. Many praised INEC for being responsive to citizens’ concerns, seeing it as a step toward a credible and inclusive election.

Political analyst Uche Nwokoye said, “The extension of PVC collection is a timely intervention. It gives citizens the opportunity to prepare fully for the November 8 governorship election and strengthens the democratic process in Anambra.”

Youth advocacy groups have encouraged first-time voters to prioritize collecting their PVCs. Many young people have expressed enthusiasm about participating in the election and influencing governance in the state.

INEC continues to prepare for a transparent and well-organized governorship election. This includes deploying election personnel, materials, and technology to ensure smooth operations on November 8.

The commission has also intensified training for ad hoc staff, election observers, and collation officers.

Mrs. Eta-Messi called on voters to take advantage of the PVC collection extension immediately to avoid last-minute congestion at collection centers.

“Every eligible voter must remember that the PVC is the key to participating in shaping the leadership of Anambra State,” she said.

In addition to the PVC collection extension, INEC has implemented voter education programs and community outreach campaigns to encourage participation.

The commission also employs the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to enhance transparency and prevent electoral fraud.

These initiatives are designed to ensure that all eligible voters are aware of their rights and can participate confidently in the upcoming election.

With the PVC collection extension in effect until November 2, INEC urges all registered voters who have not yet collected their cards to visit the designated centers promptly. Citizens can verify their registration status through the INEC online portal or by visiting their local registration office.

INEC officials will be available at all collection points to assist voters and ensure the process is smooth and efficient. The commission’s goal is to provide every eligible voter the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights.

The PVC collection extension in Anambra demonstrates INEC’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and ensuring broad voter participation.

By allowing additional time to collect Permanent Voter Cards, INEC is helping citizens secure their right to vote in the November 8 governorship election.

Eligible voters are encouraged to take full advantage of this extension, as obtaining a PVC is not only a civic responsibility but also a critical step in strengthening democracy in Anambra State.
