Armed attackers stormed a relaxation centre in Kogi, killing one person, injuring others, and abducting two workers as security forces launched a manhunt.
Suspected bandits have carried out a deadly attack on a popular relaxation centre in Oke-Ijumu, located in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, leaving one person dead and two workers missing after they were allegedly abducted by the assailants.
The violent incident, which occurred on the night of Saturday, June 6, 2026, has raised fresh concerns about security challenges facing communities across parts of Kogi.
Residents said the attackers arrived at the relaxation spot unexpectedly and opened fire, creating panic among customers and workers who were gathered at the venue.

Witnesses reported that the gunmen stormed Aluta Bar Relaxation and began shooting indiscriminately.
During the attack, one customer was fatally wounded while several others sustained injuries as they attempted to escape from the scene. The sudden gunfire forced patrons to run for safety, with many abandoning personal belongings in the process.
According to local sources, the attackers took advantage of the confusion to abduct two members of staff.
The victims are believed to be the manager of the establishment and a female sales attendant. Their whereabouts remain unknown as security agencies continue efforts to locate and rescue them.
The latest incident has added to concerns about criminal activities in parts of Kogi, where authorities have intensified operations against kidnappers, bandits and other violent groups.
Community leaders have repeatedly called for stronger security measures to protect lives and property in vulnerable areas.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that security operatives responded to emergency calls shortly after the attack.
However, the attackers had reportedly fled before security personnel arrived at the location. Residents said the swift response nevertheless helped prevent further casualties and reassured frightened members of the community.
Confirming the development, the Kogi State Government stated that security forces engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire as they attempted to escape.
Officials said the confrontation forced the criminals to abandon parts of their operation and retreat into nearby forests.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the government praised the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Military, the Police, the Kogi State Vigilante Service and local hunters who participated in the response operation.
According to the commissioner, intelligence gathered after the incident indicates that several members of the armed gang suffered gunshot wounds during the encounter with security personnel.
Authorities believe the injured suspects may attempt to seek medical treatment in nearby communities.
Fanwo explained that the coordinated response of security agencies helped prevent a potentially larger tragedy.
He noted that while one person lost his life during the violence, another victim who sustained gunshot injuries is currently receiving treatment and responding to medical care.
The Kogi government has assured residents that security agencies are working tirelessly to track down those responsible for the attack and secure the release of the abducted victims.
Officials also emphasized that efforts are ongoing to strengthen security across affected communities and prevent similar incidents.
Authorities have urged members of the public to cooperate with ongoing investigations by reporting suspicious movements, especially individuals with unexplained gunshot wounds or those seeking treatment for firearm-related injuries.
Such information, officials say, could play a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects.
As security operations continue, many residents hope the incident will lead to renewed efforts to improve safety and restore confidence in communities across Kogi.
The attack serves as another reminder of the need for sustained collaboration between security agencies and local residents in addressing emerging security threats.
