Fear grips Ondo State after armed men invaded Idogun at 1:30am, abducting a nine-year-old boy while residents fled for safety during the terrifying attack.

A wave of fear has swept through parts of Ondo State after suspected armed men stormed a quiet rural settlement in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area, abducting a nine-year-old boy during a terrifying midnight raid that left residents in panic and shock.

The attack, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. in Ugbosi Quarters, turned an otherwise peaceful night into chaos as gunmen invaded the community, firing sporadically and forcing families to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.

Residents described the incident as one of the most frightening security breaches in recent times in Ondo State, as the attackers operated with speed, coordination, and clear intent.

Midnight terror in Idogun community

During the violent invasion, the armed men reportedly targeted the home of Mr. Olaosebikan Isaac, breaking into the compound while shots rang out across the neighbourhood.

In a desperate attempt to survive, Isaac fled into a nearby forest, but in the confusion, his nine-year-old son, Victor Olaosebikan, was left behind and abducted by the attackers.

The kidnapping has left the family devastated and the entire community shaken, with residents still struggling to process how such an attack could occur in the early hours of the night.

Another resident, Joel Owalekan, also came under attack as the gunmen attempted to force entry into his home. Although parts of the building were vandalised during the invasion, he managed to escape without injury.

Ondo State security response intensifies

Security agencies in Ondo State have since launched an urgent search-and-rescue operation following the abduction.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed that operatives were immediately deployed after distress calls were received from the affected community.

According to him, police units, in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, swiftly mobilised to Idogun and began coordinated operations aimed at locating the kidnapped child.

He explained that tactical teams are currently combing nearby forests, remote paths, and suspected escape routes believed to have been used by the attackers.

Investigators have also begun collecting evidence from the scene, while intelligence units continue tracking possible leads linked to the kidnappers.

Joint search operation underway

Security authorities in Ondo State say the operation has now been expanded, with multiple tactical teams, intelligence officers, and local vigilante groups working together to intensify the search.

The goal, according to police authorities, is clear: to ensure the safe rescue of Victor Olaosebikan and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.

Residents have been urged to remain calm but vigilant, as security forces continue sweeping surrounding communities and forests believed to harbour criminal elements.

Growing fear in rural Ondo communities

The latest incident has once again highlighted rising concerns over rural insecurity in parts of Ondo State, where communities have increasingly faced attacks involving kidnapping, armed raids, and nighttime invasions.

For many residents in Idogun and surrounding villages in Ose Local Government Area, the attack has renewed fears about safety, especially for children and vulnerable families living in remote settlements.

Community members are now calling for stronger security presence, faster emergency response systems, and increased surveillance in forest-border communities where attackers often operate undetected.

Police appeal for public assistance

Authorities have appealed to residents across Ondo State to provide any useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.

DSP Abayomi stressed that anyone with credible intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the abducted child or the suspects should report immediately to the nearest police station or security outpost.

He reassured the public that all available resources are being deployed to ensure the safe return of the victim, emphasizing that security agencies are fully committed to resolving the case.
