Kano Governor Abba Yusuf reaffirms commitment to justice, speedy trials, and welfare support following the tragic murder of a mother and six children in Chiranci Dorayi.
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance against violent crimes, declaring his readiness to approve capital punishment for suspects found guilty of heinous killings across the state.
The governor made this known while reacting to the shocking murder of Mrs. Fatima Abubakar and her six children in the Chiranci Dorayi area of Kano metropolis, an incident that has drawn widespread outrage and sorrow.
Governor Yusuf stressed that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done, especially in cases involving extreme brutality.
He stated that once investigations are concluded and suspects are tried and convicted by a competent court of law, he would not hesitate to sign the necessary warrants in line with the provisions of the law.
According to him, firm decisions are required to curb rising criminality and restore public confidence in governance.
Beyond the Chiranci Dorayi incident, the governor extended his position to other tragic cases that have shaken Kano State in recent years.
These include the murder of Hanifa, a case that sparked national attention, as well as the Gezawa arson attack, where innocent residents were set ablaze.
Governor Yusuf described these acts as crimes against humanity and emphasized that justice for victims remains a top priority of his administration.
In a move aimed at preventing unnecessary delays in the legal process, the governor directed the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to immediately fast-track the prosecution of all suspects already arrested in connection with the recent killings.
He explained that while due process must be followed, prolonged trials only deepen the pain of affected families and weaken public trust in the system.
For him, timely justice serves as both punishment for offenders and deterrence for others.
During a condolence visit to the bereaved family in Chiranci Dorayi, Governor Yusuf announced a comprehensive welfare package for Haruna Bashir, the husband and father who lost his entire immediate family in the gruesome attack.
The governor described the tragedy as one of the darkest moments in Kano’s recent history, noting that no words could fully capture the depth of the loss suffered.
The welfare package approved by the state government includes sponsorship for both Hajj and Umrah, the provision of a new and befitting house, and sustained financial and social support.
According to the governor, the aim is to help the bereaved man gradually rebuild his life and regain stability after the devastating experience.
He assured that the government would remain committed to his wellbeing beyond the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
A statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, explained that the administration’s intervention goes beyond material assistance.
The governor reportedly pledged to support Haruna Bashir’s reintegration into society and even offered assistance should he decide to remarry in the future.
This, Yusuf said, is part of a broader effort to ensure that victims of violent crimes are not abandoned once public attention fades, reinforcing the government’s human-centered approach to justice.
Governor Yusuf also used the occasion to commend the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their swift response and effective collaboration, which led to the arrest of key suspects linked to the killings.
He noted that improved synergy among security agencies has become crucial in tackling criminal networks and preventing further loss of lives across the state.
In a deeply emotional gesture, Haruna Bashir announced his decision to donate his personal house to the Kano State Government.
He requested that the building be converted into an Islamiyya school to serve the Chiranci Dorayi community.
According to him, the donation is a way of honoring the memory of his late wife and children, while also contributing to the moral and educational development of the community.
Governor Yusuf praised the gesture, describing it as a powerful example of resilience, faith, and selflessness in the face of overwhelming grief.
He assured the community that the proposed Islamiyya school would be fully supported by the state, adding that such initiatives align with the government’s broader vision of social rebuilding and restorative justice.
