Reactions and Commentary on the FCT Election
Speaking to reporters immediately after the announcement of results, Gambo Babale, the APC Collation Agent, praised INEC’s management of the FCT election as transparent, credible, and well-organized.
“INEC has done an excellent job. From the polling units to the ward collation centres and here at the AMAC collation centre, the election process was conducted seamlessly,” he said.
Babale further noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured only two ward councillor positions, in Karu and Karishi, which he said reflected the fairness and transparency of the voting and collation exercise.
He congratulated Maikalangu on his victory and called on him to ensure that the people of AMAC benefit from enhanced governance and the delivery of democratic dividends.
He also suggested that the results of the FCT election indicate that the APC is strategically positioned for a strong showing in the 2025 general elections, reinforcing the party’s dominance in the Federal Capital Territory.
Similarly, Abdullahi Ibrahim, the YPP Ward Collation Agent, commended the collation process as transparent and fair, congratulating the APC candidate on his victory.
Other party agents present, including representatives from ADC, APGA, NNPP, and YPP, signed the official result sheets, signaling their acceptance of the declared outcome.
Significance of the FCT Election Results
The FCT election outcome in AMAC reflects a wider trend of strong voter participation and interest in local governance.
With Christopher Maikalangu returning as chairman, residents expect enhanced infrastructure, social services, and policy initiatives that address grassroots needs.
The election also highlighted the growing influence of smaller political parties like ADC, SDP, and YPP, which, while not victorious, recorded noticeable votes, indicating a diversifying political landscape in the FCT.
For the APC, the victory in AMAC strengthens its foothold in Abuja, boosting party morale ahead of future electoral contests.
INEC’s management of the AMAC FCT election demonstrates that a free, fair, and transparent electoral process is achievable at the local government level, setting a precedent for other councils in the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
As residents of AMAC await the formal inauguration of their chairman, political analysts have described the FCT election as a model of good governance, collaboration among party agents, and active citizen participation.
The election serves as a reminder that democratic processes at the grassroots level are critical to building trust in public institutions and enhancing accountability.
