An Indian expatriate was abducted, and a police officer tragically killed during a brazen attack by armed bandits at Ogunmakin Village, Ibadan, Oyo State, on January 16, 2026.
The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. at Aqua Triton Company, an agricultural farm, when a group of approximately ten heavily armed assailants launched a coordinated assault on the premises.
Sources familiar with the incident told security analyst Zagazola Makama that 42-year-old Renjith Pillai, a company director, was abducted while inspecting crops at the farm.
“The bandits struck suddenly, creating chaos, and forcibly took the expatriate,” the source said.
The attack underscores a growing concern over violent abductions targeting expatriates and business leaders in rural areas of Oyo State.
At the time of the incident, four personnel from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) were stationed at the farm for routine guard duties. Insp.
Imoobe Prester, one of the officers on site, reportedly confronted the assailants in an attempt to thwart the abduction.
According to witnesses, the officer engaged the bandits in a gun duel to prevent the expatriate from being taken.
Unfortunately, the bandits shot Insp. Imoobe, forcing him to the ground, before fleeing into the nearby bush.
In their escape, the attackers also stole the officer’s AK-47 rifle, intensifying concerns about the growing arsenal of weapons in criminal hands.
The injured officer was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries, sending shockwaves through the local law enforcement and farming communities.
The officer’s heroic efforts to resist the abduction have been widely commended, and his death marks a grim reminder of the risks law enforcement personnel face during violent encounters with armed criminals.
Following the attack, a multi-agency response team was deployed to Ogunmakin Village to track and apprehend the perpetrators.
