The Alumni Association of Ekiti State University (EKSU), through its solidarity platform, the EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), has formally declared support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election.
As a demonstration of this commitment, the group has purchased both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on behalf of the governor.
This bold step officially clears the way for Governor Oyebanji, a proud alumnus of EKSU, to participate in the forthcoming APC primaries ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election.
Speaking at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, where the forms were collected, Dipo Bamisaye, Director General of the Solidarity Group and Immediate Past Global President of the EKSU Alumni Association, emphasised that the governor’s first-term achievements motivated the association’s unwavering support.
According to him, Oyebanji has neither disappointed the alumni community nor betrayed the trust reposed in him since assuming office.
He added that the association felt obliged to demonstrate its loyalty tangibly, hence their resolve to purchase the forms.
Bamisaye declared, “It is our mantra that one of us is better than none of us. We strongly believe in the re-election of Mr Governor, who has not only identified with us as alumni but has governed Ekiti with dignity, compassion and remarkable commitment.”
The alumni group revealed that they successfully raised ₦75 million to purchase the forms, describing it as just the first stage of a larger fundraising drive.
Explaining the significance of this effort, Bamisaye noted that the gesture was a public demonstration of the governor’s high regard.
He stressed that the governor has contributed significantly to the transformation and recognition of EKSU, which has grown in stature since its modest beginnings.
He further stated, “If Mr Governor could achieve so much during his first tenure, despite the governance challenges, then we are assured he will do far greater things if given the opportunity of a second term.
“The fact that we, the alumni, raised such funds on his behalf clearly signals to the people of Ekiti that he is cherished and admired.”
Bamisaye also disclosed that the association’s commitment goes beyond raising funds for the forms.
He explained that members of the alumni body would embark on a broad mobilisation drive to rally alumni worldwide and Ekiti citizens across the state to secure victory for Oyebanji at the party primaries and in the general governorship election.
According to him, the solidarity group is prepared to leverage its vast network and resources to ensure that Oyebanji not only secures the APC ticket but also emerges victorious at the polls.
Receiving the delegation, the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, commended the alumni body for their demonstration of loyalty and solidarity.
He admired their readiness to invest in one of their own, stressing that such commitment reflected true unity and political maturity.
Argungu noted that from all indications, Governor Oyebanji had governed Ekiti creditably and had earned the trust of his people.
He remarked, “Your governor has performed well enough to justify the confidence being reposed in him. Coming this early to purchase the forms also shows serious preparation, and it will give him adequate time to meet all requirements before the primaries.”
The delegation accompanying Bamisaye to the APC Secretariat comprised notable EKSU alumni figures.
These included a former Global President, Dr Oludotun Adetunberu; the current Global Vice President, Mrs Folasade Olusegun; alongside other respected members such as Chief Jide Awe, Segun Dipe, and Bayo Idowu.
Their collective presence at the occasion further underlined the deep sense of solidarity among EKSU graduates and the determination of the association to play a decisive role in one of their own political futures.
