China Nigeria Commodities Expo 2025 to Strengthen Trade, Investment and Jobs

China Nigeria Commodities Expo to Boost Bilateral Trade

Nigeria and China are set to further deepen their economic partnership as preparations intensify for the 2025 China Nigeria Commodities Expo, scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 5 to November 7, 2025.

Organizers say the exhibition will serve as a strategic platform for trade cooperation, technology transfer, and investment promotion between Africa’s largest economy and the world’s second-largest economy.

The annual event, organized by the Trade Development Bureau of China’s Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with Brightway International Exhibition, has consistently provided a bridge for businesses in both nations.

With support from the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, provincial trade groups, and the Nigerian federal and state governments, the 2025 edition promises to be one of the largest since its inception.

Over 250 Chinese Manufacturers to Participate

According to the Chief Representative Officer of Brightway International Exhibition, Muheez Ojulari, the China Nigeria Commodities Expo is expected to attract over 250 Chinese manufacturers and more than 5,000 business representatives from Nigeria and across Africa.

Ojulari stressed the importance of the expo as a tool for economic empowerment and diversification.

“This platform is vital because it allows Nigerian firms to engage directly with Chinese manufacturers who control major global supply chains. It creates opportunities for better trade terms, financing, and the diversification of Nigeria’s exports,” he explained.

Wide Range of Sectors Covered

The China Nigeria Commodities Expo will feature a diverse exhibition across multiple sectors, including:

Automobiles, motorcycles, and spare parts

Machine tools and industrial machinery

Food processing and packaging equipment

Fashion, textiles, and beauty products

Construction and building materials

Agricultural machinery

Electrical and electronic products

Medical equipment

Home appliances and household items

Power and renewable energy solutions

Organizers confirmed that entry will be free for all participants, with business-to-business (B2B) meeting rooms provided to facilitate direct negotiations.

This format is designed to help Nigerian entrepreneurs and corporate leaders explore new markets, attract investment, and secure technical support.

Support from Nigerian Trade Association

The China Nigeria Commodities Expo has earned strong backing from several Nigerian trade and business groups.

Among them are the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association, the National Automotive and Technical Association, the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria, the Computer and Allied Product Dealers Association of Nigeria, and the Building Materials Association of Nigeria.

Others include the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria, the Ogun State Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the National Coffee and Tea Association of Nigeria.

This broad support underscores the significance of the expo in connecting Nigerian businesses with global opportunities.

Expanding Bilateral Trade

Since its inception in 2007, the China Nigeria Commodities Expo has grown into one of the largest trade fairs in West Africa.

Its impact has been amplified by the rapid expansion of bilateral trade between Nigeria and China.

Data from Chinese customs revealed that trade between the two countries reached $23.9 billion in 2022, including $22.3 billion in Chinese exports to Nigeria and $1.6 billion in imports from Nigeria.

By the third quarter of 2023, bilateral trade had already hit $17.25 billion, while in the first seven months of 2025, trade volume rose to $15.48 billion—a 34.7 percent year-on-year increase. Nigeria has since emerged as China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa.

Driving Investment and Job Creation

Beyond trade, the China Nigeria Commodities Expo is positioned as a catalyst for investment and entrepreneurship.

Organizers revealed that the event will actively promote venture capital opportunities for Nigerian startups, especially in technology and manufacturing.

By facilitating access to funding and global networks, the expo is expected to play a critical role in addressing unemployment and reducing poverty.

China’s growing investment footprint in Nigeria further illustrates this point.

With over $1.5 billion already invested in the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone, Chinese companies have created more than 7,000 jobs for Nigerians.

Stakeholders believe that this momentum will continue, especially as Nigeria pursues policies to attract foreign direct investment.

Strengthening China-Africa Relations

For both nations, the China Nigeria Commodities Expo represents more than a trade fair; it is a symbol of the broader China-Africa partnership.

By creating avenues for technology transfer, industrial growth, and joint ventures, the event reinforces the mutual benefits of cooperation.

Ojulari emphasized that the 2025 edition would highlight new areas of collaboration, particularly in renewable energy, digital technology, and industrial processing.

“The expo is not just about trade; it’s about building a sustainable economic relationship that can address shared challenges and unlock future opportunities,” he said.

As Nigeria and China prepare for the 2025 edition of the China Nigeria Commodities Expo, expectations are high that the event will deliver fresh opportunities for growth, innovation, and partnership.

China Nigeria commodities expo

With bilateral trade already on the rise and investments expanding into strategic sectors, the expo is set to further cement Nigeria’s role as a key partner in China’s engagement with Africa.

Through trade diversification, investment in infrastructure, and entrepreneurship support, the expo promises to contribute significantly to economic growth, poverty reduction, and improved living standards for millions of Nigerians.
