Danny Welbeck scored the winner at St James’ Park to put Brighton into the quarter finals of the FA Cup.
Isak had already prodded over from close range before he was gifted a spot kick by former Newcastle winger Minteh in the 22nd minute.
But Minteh’s clumsy lunge on Tino Livramento near the corner of the box gave Anthony Taylor no choice but to award a penalty, and Isak made no mistake as he blasted past Bart Verbruggen.
Gordon was sent off for aiming a mindless push at Jan Paul van Hecke’s head in seven minutes to end the game.
During extra time a second yellow card was given to Tariq Lamptey ensured it was 10 versus 10 for the duration of extra time, but Brighton reached the quarter-finals for the second time in three years as Danny Welbeck lobbed Martin Dubravka for a 114th minute winner.
