The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the closure of Runway 18R/36L at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Ikeja, Lagos, for rehabilitation.
The closure, which began at 3 am on Monday, March 3, 2025, is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the runway remains in optimal condition.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the closure is due to ongoing rehabilitation work (asphalt phase) at the A2 Taxiwaylink of the runway.
To minimize disruptions to flight operations, all flights will be redirected to the alternative runway, 18L/36R. FAAN has assured airport users that the closure will not affect flight schedules.
Mrs. Orah emphasized FAAN’s commitment to the safety, security, and comfort of airport users. The rehabilitation work is aimed at ensuring that the runway remains safe and efficient for all users.
The closure of Runway 18R/36L is part of FAAN’s ongoing efforts to upgrade and maintain its infrastructure. The authority has been working to improve the safety and efficiency of its airports, including the MMA.
Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for any updates on flight schedules and operations. FAAN has assured that all necessary measures are being taken to minimize disruptions to flight operations.
The rehabilitation work on Runway 18R/36L is expected to be completed soon, and the runway will be reopened to flight operations.
