Wike says he has forgiven political opponents in Rivers State while defending his coalition’s dominance and showcasing major Abuja projects.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sparked fresh controversy after extending what many observers described as a surprising peace offering to his political opponents in Rivers State.

During a political gathering held in Port Harcourt ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike openly declared that he had forgiven former allies and rivals who had clashed with him during the prolonged political tensions that rocked the state in recent months.

The former Rivers State governor used the occasion to call for reconciliation among politicians across different camps, insisting that endless political fights and public confrontations would not help the growth of the state.

According to him, the time had come for political actors to put aside bitterness and focus on rebuilding unity within the political structure that once dominated the state.

Wike stated that politics should not permanently destroy personal relationships, adding that disagreements are common in political environments.

He urged politicians who had separated from his camp to return sincerely and work together for the future of Rivers State.

Speaking before party loyalists and supporters, Wike maintained that his political family remains solid despite months of tension and internal disagreements.

He described his coalition as stable, organised, and capable of retaining political control in the state ahead of future elections.

The FCT Minister also warned individuals outside Rivers State against attempting to interfere in the state’s political affairs.

According to him, some forces are allegedly trying to exploit political disagreements for personal advantage, but he insisted that his camp remains alert and prepared to resist any attempt to destabilise the state.

Wike further boasted that his political structure has already secured a strong advantage ahead of the next governorship election in Rivers State.

He dismissed suggestions that any sudden political alliance or unexpected development could remove his camp from power.

The minister confidently stated that those expecting a political upset in the state would be disappointed because his coalition remains firmly rooted across various political levels.

He added that his supporters continue to mobilise daily while strengthening their influence across local governments and communities.

Although his comments carried strong political undertones, Wike repeatedly returned to the subject of forgiveness and reconciliation.

He said his decision to forgive political opponents was necessary to create room for progress and cooperation among stakeholders.

According to him, politics should not become a permanent war where former friends turn into lifelong enemies. He encouraged aggrieved politicians to reconnect with other leaders and contribute positively to the political future of Rivers State.

Beyond the political reconciliation message, Wike also used the event to highlight achievements recorded under his leadership as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

He announced that the FCT Administration would soon begin a 31-day commissioning exercise for completed infrastructure projects across Abuja.

The minister explained that the commissioning programme would feature major road projects, urban renewal schemes, public infrastructure, and other development initiatives executed under his supervision.

He argued that the projects reflect purposeful leadership and effective governance.

Wike praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the transformation efforts taking place in Abuja.

According to him, the scale of development currently ongoing in the Federal Capital Territory demonstrates the administration’s commitment to delivering visible projects to Nigerians.

He also challenged critics to compare the level of infrastructural development under his leadership with previous administrations. Wike insisted that his team is focused on delivering practical results rather than engaging in unnecessary political distractions.

The former governor noted that many of the projects scheduled for commissioning are large-scale developments capable of reshaping parts of Abuja.

He dismissed claims that the projects were minor interventions, stressing that the administration has concentrated on impactful infrastructure that directly affects residents.

Political observers believe Wike’s latest remarks may signal an attempt to reposition himself ahead of the 2027 elections while also consolidating influence within Rivers State politics.

His comments come at a time when several political camps across Nigeria are already beginning underground consultations and alliance-building ahead of future contests.

Despite the reconciliation tone of his speech, Wike’s confidence about his political dominance also revealed that he remains determined to maintain control over the political direction of Rivers State.

Analysts say his statements reflect both a peace strategy and a clear warning to rivals considering challenging his influence.

Supporters at the event applauded his remarks, particularly his declaration that his political structure remains united despite external pressures and internal disagreements.

Some attendees described the speech as a calculated effort to calm tensions while reassuring loyalists that the coalition remains intact.

In recent months, Rivers State politics has attracted national attention due to disagreements among major political actors and competing interests within the ruling political class.

However, Wike insists that his camp remains focused, organised, and fully prepared for future political battles.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually begin across the country, many political observers will continue to monitor how Wike balances reconciliation efforts with his determination to preserve political dominance both in Rivers State and within the broader national political space.
