Nnamdi Kanu judgment controversy continues to dominate national discussions following a vehement response from Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader.
In a detailed social media statement, she condemned the Federal High Court ruling that sentenced her husband to life imprisonment, describing the judgment as unconstitutional, biased, and fundamentally flawed.
Her intervention has fueled widespread debate and renewed scrutiny of the handling of politically sensitive trials in Nigeria.
Kanu was handed a life imprisonment verdict by Justice James Omotosho after being found guilty of terrorism-related offences.
The court held that his call for a “sit-at-home” directive in the South-East, which was allegedly enforced through threats and intimidation, constituted acts of terrorism.
In addition, Justice Omotosho imposed concurrent sentences of 20 years and five years on separate counts.
The judge explained that international opposition to capital punishment informed his decision not to impose the death penalty.
Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, however, described the ruling as part of the Kanu judgment controversy and asserted that the trial was riddled with legal defects.
