The quiet community of Ezema Nru in Nsukka Local Government Area has been thrown into mourning following a disturbing incident that has drawn widespread attention across Enugu State.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a woman, Loretta Asadu, and her daughter, Chikamso, over the alleged killing of their 70-year-old relative, popularly known as Mama Oliver.
Authorities in Enugu disclosed that the arrests were made shortly after the incident was reported.
Police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, stated that the suspects are currently in custody while investigators work to determine what transpired inside the family residence.

A neighbour, who requested anonymity, alleged that the elderly woman had complained of hunger shortly before the incident.
The source further claimed that Loretta’s son, identified as Abumchukwu, went out to buy food for her.
According to the same account, the young man allegedly restrained his mother before leaving the house because she was reportedly becoming agitated.
However, while he was away, Chikamso was said to have untied her mother. What followed, according to residents, was a violent confrontation that resulted in the elderly woman sustaining severe injuries.
Community members alleged that the suspects accused the deceased of stealing money from them.
They further claimed that she was dragged behind the house during the altercation. By the time neighbours became aware that something was wrong, the situation had reportedly escalated beyond control.
Another resident, identified simply as Ifeanyi, described the development as heartbreaking.
He said the community was called to the scene after word spread that something terrible had occurred. According to him, the deceased was known to be peaceful and had never been involved in disputes within the area.
Following the incident, the remains of the elderly woman were evacuated and deposited at a mortuary in Nsukka for autopsy.
Medical examination is expected to determine the precise cause of death, while investigators gather statements from family members and witnesses.
