The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Chapter, has applauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his remarkable commitment to improving Oyo teachers welfare and revitalizing the education sector.
The union described the governor’s continuous efforts as a beacon of hope that has transformed the teaching profession and elevated the morale of educators across the state.
Speaking at the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration held in Ibadan, the NUT State Chairman, Comrade Raji Oladimeji Ismail, lauded the governor for his numerous pro-teacher policies, including prompt salary payments, recruitment of new staff, career advancement opportunities, and the appointment of a classroom teacher as the Executive Chairperson of the Oyo State Post-Primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
According to him, these steps clearly demonstrate the governor’s unwavering dedication to advancing Oyo teachers welfare and restoring the dignity of the profession.
Comrade Ismail noted that Governor Makinde’s administration had brought significant relief to teachers through initiatives such as ending the six-year delay in primary school teachers’ promotions and creating 10 TESCOM zonal offices.
He also celebrated the appointment of qualified teachers as Permanent Secretaries and Tutor Generals, describing it as a milestone achievement that highlights the administration’s fairness and inclusiveness.
He added that the union under his leadership had partnered closely with the government to strengthen welfare programs for teachers.
The state’s recent upward review of car and housing loan packages, he said, has enabled teachers to enjoy better living standards and financial stability.
Yet, despite these achievements, Ismail drew attention to ongoing challenges like inadequate funding, infrastructure deficits, and the need for continuous capacity development.
He urged the government to address these concerns swiftly to sustain the gains recorded in Oyo teachers welfare and educational development.
In his address, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, reassured teachers of the government’s commitment to their professional growth.
He announced that Governor Makinde had approved the long-awaited promotion letters for the 2023/2024 academic year and the inter-zonal transfer of 2005 teachers.
The governor also approved the integration of teachers on secondment into TESCOM’s employment structure, further solidifying his record of supporting Oyo teachers welfare and professional stability.
Dr. Adeniran encouraged teachers, especially the newly recruited ones, to use proper administrative channels to express grievances instead of turning to social media.
He emphasized that teaching remains a noble profession anchored on discipline, decorum, and dedication to service.
Representing the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Audi Titus Amba, the union’s Vice President, Comrade Shaibu Olayinka Yisa, praised Governor Makinde for his progressive policies and people-oriented governance.
He stated that this year’s theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” reinforces the importance of teamwork, professional growth, and collective effort among educators.

The colorful event, which marked the 2025 World Teachers’ Day in Oyo State, was chaired by the Osi Olubadan-designate, His Royal Majesty Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi, who applauded teachers for their tireless dedication to nurturing future leaders.

The Oyo State Government, represented by the Information Commissioner, Prince Dotun Oyelade, praised the NUT.
