The council made this decision during a consultative meeting held at the private residence of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in Iperu Remo.

The rulers emphasized that unity and active collaboration between traditional institutions and the federal government are essential in restoring peace and stability.

The permanent chairman of the council, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, highlighted that traditional leaders are closest to grassroots communities and can play a pivotal role in addressing insecurity in Nigeria.

He noted that the council’s vote of confidence in the Tinubu administration underscores their commitment to assisting in curbing criminal activities, including banditry and kidnappings.

Oba Ogunwusi stressed that traditional leadership is not merely ceremonial; it is a critical instrument for conflict resolution, intelligence gathering, and mobilizing community support for government initiatives. “At this critical time,” he said,

“Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers will not leave the president alone.

“Our solidarity is a symbol of the shared responsibility to tackle insecurity in every part of the nation.”

The meeting brought together prominent monarchs from across Southern Nigeria, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade; the Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi; and the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Obalanlege.

These leaders discussed strategies to strengthen community safety and ensure that traditional institutions actively contribute to national security efforts.

The council further emphasized that addressing insecurity requires more than just law enforcement.

It calls for cultural leadership, peace education, and local engagement to prevent crime and foster societal trust.

By leveraging their influence, Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers can enhance communication between communities and government, providing critical insights that strengthen policy and action against insecurity.

In closing, the monarchs pledged to work hand in hand with the Tinubu administration, ensuring that traditional leadership remains a cornerstone in national stability.

They urged citizens to participate actively in safety initiatives and maintain confidence that peace and security are achievable when government and traditional rulers collaborate.

Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers reaffirmed their commitment to promoting community safety and supporting policies that address insecurity, making their endorsement a critical step toward national harmony.
