Pastor Etetim Udo, an Oron cleric, was found dead inside his church as Akwa Ibom Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Pastor Etetim Udo, the Founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries in Oron.
Pastor Etetim Udo was reportedly found dead inside the church premises on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in circumstances the police are investigating as a suspected case of suicide.
The cleric’s death was reported to the police after a resident who usually parks his motorcycle at the church premises arrived at about 8:18 a.m. and noticed an unusual gathering around the building.
According to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the resident made inquiries and was informed by the children of Pastor Udo that their father had allegedly taken his own life.
Following the report, police operatives were immediately mobilised to the church located at No. 1B Etim Inyang Street, Oron, where they commenced preliminary investigations into the incident.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed the development in a statement, saying investigators examined the scene and recovered relevant exhibits that could assist in determining what happened.
Preliminary findings by the police indicated that Pastor Etetim Udo was found suspended inside the church with a twisted mosquito net rope.
Investigators subsequently processed the scene, took photographs and recovered items considered relevant to the case. The exhibits are expected to undergo forensic examination as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the pastor’s death.
The police have not disclosed any possible motive behind the incident. Authorities have also not announced any arrest in connection with the death, while investigations remain ongoing.
After the scene was examined, the remains of Pastor Udo were evacuated to a hospital, where a doctor on duty reportedly confirmed him dead.
His body was subsequently deposited at a mortuary pending an autopsy, which is expected to provide further information that could assist investigators in establishing the cause and circumstances of his death.
The police command said the investigation would examine the available evidence and circumstances surrounding the incident before any final conclusion is reached.
The death of Pastor Etetim Udo has attracted attention in Oron, particularly because of the circumstances in which he was reportedly discovered inside the church.
However, the police have urged the public to allow investigators to complete their work and establish the facts surrounding the incident.
