Governor Seyi Makinde swears in Professor Musbau Babatunde as SSG, reinforcing strong governance and strategic initiatives to 2027 in Oyo State.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally sworn in Professor Musbau Babatunde as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), a move aimed at consolidating the administration’s achievements and driving innovative programs through to the conclusion of his tenure in 2027.
While Professor Babatunde’s appointment as SSG was announced earlier, the recent ceremony marked his official induction into the office, signaling the administration’s renewed focus on effective governance and strategic leadership.
In a statement shared by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Governor expressed confidence in the ability of the new SSG to coordinate government activities, unite the executive team, and ensure that policies and programs are implemented without disruption.
Oyelade highlighted that Governor Makinde views the office of the SSG as central to achieving seamless governance and sustaining developmental momentum across the state.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Makinde emphasized that while his administration has recorded significant achievements since 2019, completing the tenure with excellence is vital to consolidating the legacy he intends to leave behind.
He reassured the public that the exit of the former SSG, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, was a routine administrative decision and should not be over-interpreted.
Professor Babatunde brings extensive experience to the role of SSG, having previously led the team responsible for developing the Economic Road Map for Accelerated Development in Oyo State (2019–2023).
This roadmap has been widely recognized as a blueprint for sustainable development, addressing key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic diversification.
Governor Makinde emphasized that Babatunde’s proven competence and ability to translate strategic plans into actionable policies were major considerations in his appointment.
“I appointed him not because he is a Muslim or because he comes from Oyo town, but because he is tested and competent,” the Governor stated, underscoring that meritocracy remains central to his administration’s decision-making.
The Governor expressed confidence that Professor Babatunde, as SSG, would ensure cohesive teamwork, smooth policy execution, and uninterrupted governance across all ministries and departments.
Since joining the administration in 2019, Professor Babatunde has played a key role in shaping policy frameworks, coordinating developmental programs, and ensuring that state initiatives meet the needs of the people.

Governor Makinde also thanked the University of Ibadan for releasing Professor Babatunde to serve in government over the past years, acknowledging the university’s contribution to public service.

Oyelade said the Governor recalled that professor Babatunde was the head of his team that put together the Economic Road Map for Accelerated Development in Oyo state 2019 to 2023.

The Governor thanked the university of Ibadan community for releasing professor Babatunde to work with him since 2019. He also thanked the traditional rulers for being worthy stakeholders in the state.
