Voters across Osun State are today, Saturday, August 15, 2026, casting their ballots to determine who will govern the state for the next four years. The governorship election has attracted significant attention as political parties and their candidates seek the mandate of the electorate across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking a second term in office, while Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are among the major contenders challenging for the governorship seat.
With voting underway, security arrangements and the conduct of personnel deployed across the state remain under close public scrutiny.
Amid the election-day activities, concerns have been raised over an alleged security deployment to the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun.
The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), through its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, alleged that armed security personnel arrived at the Speaker’s residence in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles and reportedly restricted movement within the premises.
The campaign council, however, stated that it could not independently establish the purpose of the deployment or determine whether the personnel were providing security or performing official duties.
It consequently called on the relevant security authorities to urgently clarify the situation, particularly the reported restriction of movement at the residence.
Below is the full statement issued by the Imole Campaign Council:
SECURITY ALERT: ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL WITH MORE THAN 10 BLACK HILUX VEHICLES REPORTEDLY SURROUND OSUN SPEAKER’S RESIDENCE
We have received reports that the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has been surrounded by armed security personnel who reportedly arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles.
We have also been informed that the residence has effectively been sealed off, with everyone inside reportedly prevented from leaving the premises.
At this moment, we cannot independently confirm the purpose of their presence, whether they are there to provide security or are carrying out routine official duties. We therefore call on the relevant security agencies to immediately clarify the purpose of this deployment and the reported restriction of movement at the residence.
We have called the publicly available official contact line of the Commissioner of Police for the election, but our calls were not answered. We also called the DIG Election contact line without response. We further attempted to reach the Police Situation Room, but the publicly provided number is currently switched off.
On this Election Day, the people of Osun State deserve an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation. Security deployments must inspire confidence and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
The people of Osun State must be allowed to come out peacefully and decide their future according to their own conscience, without intimidation or interference.
We urge everyone to remain peaceful and law-abiding while we await an official explanation from the relevant security authorities.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq.
Spokesperson
The Imole Campaign Council (TICC)
