Ondo Kidnapping case takes new twist as police arrest five suspects linked to the abduction of two schoolchildren in Ore, recovering ransom money

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crimes following the arrest of five suspects linked to the abduction of two young schoolchildren in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which sparked fear among residents and parents within the community, involved two brothers identified as Jehu, 10, and Yohana, 5.

The children were reportedly kidnapped while walking to school in the Sawmill area of Ore, a development that immediately raised security concerns across the town.

According to information released by the police authorities, the children’s father, Andrew Yohana, reported the disturbing incident at the Ore Police Station shortly after discovering that his sons had not arrived at school.

Following the report, operatives attached to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad swung into action and launched an intensive investigation aimed at tracking down the kidnappers.

Ondo kidnapping

The Ondo Kidnapping case quickly attracted attention because of the ages of the victims and the growing concerns over criminal activities targeting vulnerable residents in parts of the state.

Security operatives reportedly relied on intelligence gathering, technical surveillance, and coordinated tracking operations to uncover the network behind the abduction.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the operation led detectives to the Alaba area of Ore, where two prime suspects identified as Taofeek Lukman, 23, and Blessing Saturday, 27, were arrested. Their arrest reportedly opened up fresh leads that assisted investigators in uncovering more details about the criminal syndicate.

During the operation, officers recovered over N250,000 believed to be part of the ransom allegedly paid by the family of the abducted children.

Investigators also discovered an unregistered motorcycle suspected to have been used by members of the gang during the kidnapping operation.

Further investigations later led to the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Peter Moses, 25, Sunday Isaac, 23, and Sanusi Dan Asabe, 37.

Police authorities stated that the suspects were connected to the abduction network and had allegedly participated in different stages of the operation.

Sources within the security agency revealed that some of the suspects had already provided useful information to investigators during interrogation.

The police said the suspects made confessional statements that could assist authorities in identifying other fleeing members of the syndicate still at large.

The Ondo Kidnapping investigation is still ongoing as security operatives intensify efforts to track down additional suspects linked to the criminal group.

Authorities also disclosed that more recoveries could be made as detectives continue searching locations believed to have been used by the kidnappers.

Residents of Ore and nearby communities have reacted to the development with mixed emotions.

While many praised the police for responding swiftly to the incident, others expressed concern over the increasing rate of insecurity and kidnapping activities in several parts of the country.

Community leaders in Ore have also called for stronger security presence around schools and residential areas to prevent future incidents.

Some parents appealed to government authorities and security agencies to improve surveillance around school routes, especially in vulnerable communities where children trek long distances daily.

Kidnapping remains one of the major security challenges confronting many Nigerian states, with criminals increasingly targeting schoolchildren, travelers, and rural residents for ransom payments.

Security analysts believe the growing economic hardship in the country has contributed to the rise in organized criminal activities.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication.

He reassured residents that the command would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and community policing efforts to combat violent crimes across the state.

Ohagwu further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities within their communities.

According to him, collaboration between residents and security agencies remains one of the most effective ways to tackle criminal activities.

The Ondo Kidnapping incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for sustained security reforms and stronger protection for schoolchildren across Nigeria.

Many citizens are now calling on both state and federal authorities to intensify efforts toward addressing insecurity before more innocent lives are exposed to danger.

Meanwhile, police authorities confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The command also assured residents that operations were ongoing to dismantle every criminal network connected to the kidnapping gang.

As security agencies continue their crackdown on kidnappers and other criminal elements, many residents in Ondo State hope the latest arrests will serve as a strong warning to individuals involved in violent crimes and restore confidence among citizens living in affected communities.
