Kano NSCDC removes Fagge divisional officer after suspect dies in custody. Investigation launched, new officer deployed to ensure accountability and justice.
The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken decisive action following the death of a suspect in custody at the Fagge divisional office.

In a move aimed at ensuring accountability and transparency, the command removed the Fagge Divisional Officer and handed over all officers on duty during the incident to the Nigerian Police for further investigation.
According to a statement released by Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC Kano, the command is fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities to ensure that justice is served.
“Following the tragic death of a suspect at the Fagge divisional office and the subsequent setting up of a panel of inquiry for a discreet and fair investigation, the State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, has approved the removal of Fagge Divisional Officer, SC Amina Musa Kolawale,” the statement read.
A new officer, CSC Bashir Isa Abubakar, has been deployed to replace the removed divisional officer.
The NSCDC further appealed to members of the public to remain calm and assured citizens of its ongoing commitment to professionalism, adherence to standard operational procedures, human rights, and the sanctity of life.
The suspect, identified as Halifa Abdullahi, was reportedly an officer serving under the NSCDC in Fagge.
Social media reports suggest that he was accused of stealing a sum of N1,000,000 and a motorcycle.
Following the allegation, he was allegedly subjected to severe beating and torture, which ultimately resulted in his death.
A Facebook user, Jafar Magaji, quoted Halifa’s brother stating that when he visited him on the night of January 6, 2026, he could hear the sounds of his brother being beaten. Officers reportedly told Halifa that he would not even be allowed to eat.
The incident has sparked public concern and raised questions about disciplinary procedures and accountability within the NSCDC.
Human rights advocates have called for a thorough investigation to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
According to experts, the NSCDC, as a paramilitary organization, has a duty to maintain order while strictly respecting human rights and following operational guidelines.
Kano NSCDC has emphasized that the removal of the divisional officer is part of the ongoing disciplinary action to reinforce accountability and transparency within the organization.
The command has reiterated that all officers involved in the case have been handed over to the Nigerian Police, Kano State Command, for legal action.
The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances leading to the suspect’s death and ensure justice for both the victim and his family.
“The NSCDC remains committed to upholding integrity, rule of law, and the sanctity of life. We assure the public that such incidents will be thoroughly investigated, and necessary action will be taken against those found culpable,” said the statement.
The command also reiterated its policy on professional conduct and human rights, emphasizing that every officer must adhere to established protocols when handling suspects in custody.
The removal of the Fagge divisional officer highlights the seriousness with which the NSCDC Kano is addressing allegations of misconduct and human rights violations.
Experts note that the disciplinary measures are crucial not only for justice in this case but also for maintaining public trust in the NSCDC as a law enforcement agency.
In addition to the removal and reassignment of officers, the NSCDC has promised to review internal procedures to prevent future incidents.
The command’s proactive approach is intended to reassure the public of its commitment to lawful conduct and professional integrity.
Citizens have been urged to report any suspected misconduct within NSCDC operations to help strengthen accountability mechanisms.
This incident has also sparked discussions about the treatment of suspects in custody nationwide.
Human rights organizations emphasize that law enforcement agencies, including the NSCDC, must ensure detainees’ welfare and strictly follow the rule of law.
