Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised four suspected kidnappers, rescued three kidnapped victims and arrested eight suspects during a series of security operations across Kogi, Kwara and Plateau states.

The operations, which targeted criminal activities in different communities, also led to the recovery of a pump-action gun, four motorcycles and N64,000 in cash.

Details of the military operations were contained in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.

Nigerian Army Operation in Kwara

In Kwara State, troops operating under Operation Savannah Shield reportedly engaged suspected kidnappers at a crossing point around Jonloji village in the riverine area of Kaiama Local Government Area.

The troops reportedly launched an ambush against the suspected kidnappers, resulting in the neutralisation of four members of the group.

During the operation, the soldiers also rescued one person who was believed to have been abducted by the criminal gang.

Items recovered from the suspected kidnappers included one pump-action gun, four motorcycles and N64,000 in cash.

The rescued victim was subsequently evacuated from the area and taken to the General Hospital, Kaiama, for medical treatment.

The operation is part of the military’s continued efforts to disrupt the activities of kidnapping gangs and other criminal groups operating in communities across the country.

Two kidnap victims rescued in Kogi

In a separate operation in Kogi State, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Egbe rescued two more victims who had been kidnapped in Yagba West Local Government Area.

The victims were reportedly abducted on July 21 at Ruga Mascaru in the local government area.

According to the operational report, the kidnappers fled after sighting the advancing troops, allowing the soldiers to rescue the two victims.

The rescued individuals were later safely reunited with their families.

The successful operation represents another intervention by security forces aimed at rescuing victims of kidnapping and preventing criminal elements from operating freely in vulnerable communities.

Three suspects arrested over alleged attempted rape in Plateau

Meanwhile, troops operating in Plateau State arrested three suspects accused of attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl in Bokkos Local Government Area.

The suspects were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The military also intervened in a separate dispute between a farmer and a herder following an allegation involving the destruction of farmland.

During the incident, the farmer was arrested, while the injured herder was evacuated and taken for medical treatment.

Army foils armed robbery attempt

In another operation in Plateau State, troops reportedly foiled an attempted armed robbery along the Hawan Kibo-Rafin Sanyi road in Riyom Local Government Area.

The soldiers engaged the suspected armed robbers, forcing the criminals to abandon their operation and flee from the area.

The incident further demonstrates the continued deployment of military personnel to strategic locations to prevent criminal activities and protect residents and road users.

Other Nigerian Army operations continue

The operational report also disclosed that troops serving under other military formations, including Operations Fansan Yamma, Hadin Kai and AA II, continued with offensive operations and routine patrols within their respective areas of responsibility.

The operations were reportedly conducted without any significant incident being recorded during the period covered by the report.

The latest military operations come amid ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities across different parts of the country.

The Nigerian Army has continued to rely on offensive operations, patrols and intelligence-driven interventions to disrupt criminal networks, rescue abducted persons and improve security in affected communities.

The military’s recent successes in Kogi and Kwara, alongside operations in Plateau and other parts of the country, highlight the continued focus on tackling criminal activities and protecting civilians.

Residents in affected communities are also expected to continue supporting security agencies with relevant information that could assist in identifying criminal hideouts and preventing attacks.
