The governor announced that he would be donating two buses to the guest lecturer, Imam Yunus Teilat (Ayilara II), as well as to the family of the deceased Sarkin Sasa.

Engr Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has issued a plea to the people of the state, urging them to live in harmony and unity for the sake of the state’s sustained development and stability.

At the 11th Omi Tuntun Annual Ramadan Public Lecture, which took place on Monday at the Government House Arcade in Ibadan, the governor revealed this information to the public.

Makinde emphasized that the maximum amount of progress that the state may make is only possible when its citizens are united.

At the same time that he announced that the support of the Muslim Ummah over the years has helped the government to accomplish a great deal, he also called on the Muslim Ummah to pray for the state more frequently.

The Islamic faithful in the state were thanked by Makinde for their prayers, support, and collaboration with his administration.

Makinde also urged the Islamic faithful to continue to live in peace with others so that the state may continue to make new advancements.

He described the dead Sarkin Sasa, Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Katsina, as a staunch supporter of his government and urged for the observation of a minute of silence in commemoration of his passing. He passed away over the weekend.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank our fathers, traditional heads, Grand Chief Imam of Ibadanland and Oyo State.

“I believe we were able to achieve all the things we have been able to achieve because of your support. So, I want to really thank you and solicit for more prayers so that we can progress as a state.

“In this period of Ramadan, I want all of us to know that this is our state and it is only when we are united and have peaceful co-existence that we can achieve more. When we come together, we achieve more.

“If God wanted the existence of only one ethnic or religion or sect, he has the capacity to do it. But he created us to have multiple ethnic groups, different religions and different sects. By doing that, He has preached to us about the need for unity.

“So, let us use the opportunity of this holy month to co-exist peacefully beyond the Ramadan period for unity and stability in our state.”

In light of the portion of the lecture that focused on the fulfillment of promises, the governor announced that he would be donating two buses to the guest lecturer, Imam Yunus Teilat (Ayilara II), as well as to the family of the deceased Sarkin Sasa. This would be done in order to fulfill the promises that he had made and to promote the spread of Islam.

“The lecturer also emphasised on fulfillment of promise and I concluded that I would continue to live up to that expectation. Last year, I promised that the guest lecturer would go home with a new bus this year, and it will be fulfilled before the end of this week.

“Another promise was made about three weeks ago, Baba Sarkin Sasa came to condole with me at home on the death of my elderly brother.

“He requested for a bus then and I made a promise to him that I would give him. So, despite the fact that he is late, I will still release the bus in fulfillment of my promise and to show that today’s lecture has started taking effect in my life.

“Benefits of being a good neighbour: An Islamic Perspective” was the subject of an earlier Ramadan lecture given by Imam Teilat, Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, in which he urged the people to learn to live in harmony with one another and their neighbors.

Regardless of gender, nationality, or ethnicity, he continued, religion should not be a source of contention.

The religious leader praised Governor Makinde for his reverence for God and urged him to continue doing the right thing for the sake of humanity.

During his introductory remarks, the chairman of the event, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, praised women for their tenacity in dealing with domestic duties and mentioned that Ramadan is a time of tolerance and patience.

Alhaji Daud Makanjuola Akinola, of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, and Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, of the Oyo State House of Assembly, both paid tribute to Governor Makinde in their separate messages of goodwill, praising him as a leader who fears God and welcomes people of all faiths.

In addition, they praised his efforts when it came to finishing projects that had been abandoned by previous governments and prayed for additional accomplishments in his term.

Barr. Bayo Lawal, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, expressed his gratitude to the assistance and cooperation that the current administration has received from the Muslim community in the state. He also requested additional prayers and support for the government.
