Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has resigned from the NNPP amid internal crises, triggering major political realignments and renewed defection talks.
Kano State’s political landscape has entered a new and uncertain phase following the resignation of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), a move that has sent ripples across the state and beyond.

After what he described as careful consideration, Abba Kabir Yusuf said he concluded that stepping away from the NNPP was in the overall interest of Kano State and its people.
He emphasised that the decision was taken in good faith, without hostility toward the party, and reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity, and development within the state.
Political observers note that the timing of the resignation is significant, coming shortly after the governor’s visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
On Monday, he was received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a private meeting that lasted several minutes.

Sources familiar with the visit disclosed that the Kano State governor arrived at the State House shortly after 4:00 p.m. and was personally escorted to the President’s office by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
