The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 56.10km Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway Section II (Umuahia–Aba) will be completed and ready for inauguration in June
The minister made this announcement while inspecting the progress of work on the project in Aba on Monday.
Umahi commenced the inspection of ongoing road projects in the South-East and South-South regions in January. During his inspection, he expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by the contractor handling the project, Arab Contractors (Nig.) Ltd. He noted that the contractor was receptive to instructions and had made significant progress on the project.
The minister directed the contractor to complete the earthwork and other necessary tasks by the end of April. He stated that only about two kilometers of earthwork and four kilometers of asphalt work were left to be completed. Umahi expressed confidence that the project would be completed on schedule and ready for inauguration in June.
Umahi acknowledged that President Bola Tinubu had made adequate funding provisions for the project in the 2024 and 2025 budgets. He commended Governor Alex Otti for heeding his call to ensure that traders and vehicles were cleared off the road, which had quickened the process of construction and would ensure the durability of the road.
Umahi urged the people of the South-East to appreciate President Tinubu for his projects in the zone, noting that no past president had done as much for them. He stated that the entire South-East should give President Tinubu 100% of their votes in 2027 to show appreciation for his efforts.
The completion of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway is expected to have significant implications for the region. The expressway will improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and enhance economic growth in the South-East and South-South regions.
David Umahi is the current Minister of Works and a former Governor of Ebonyi State. He has been instrumental in overseeing several infrastructure projects across the country, including the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
