The Federal High Court has postponed the bail hearing involving former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to March 31, following proceedings held earlier in the day where both parties presented their arguments before the court.
During the hearing, counsel to the defendant, Ukpon Akpan, made a strong case for the release of his client on bail.
He emphasized that granting bail would uphold the constitutional rights of the accused and provide El-Rufai with sufficient opportunity to properly prepare his defense.
On the other hand, the prosecution opposed the application, maintaining that the charges brought against El-Rufai are of a serious nature.
They further argued that granting bail at this stage could potentially disrupt or hinder the ongoing investigations into the matter.
After listening to submissions from both the defense and the prosecution, the presiding judge decided to adjourn the case.
The court fixed March 31 as the date to deliver its ruling on the bail application.
