Several people have been injured following a shooting and a fire at a Mormon church in Michigan, according to local police.
Authorities confirmed that an active shooter incident unfolded on Sunday morning at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a town located about 60 miles (96 km) northwest of Detroit.
“There are multiple victims and the shooter is down,” Grand Blanc Township Police said in a statement. They added that the church was “actively on fire,” but stressed that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, and officials have not released any details about the suspect or a possible motive.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi said she had been briefed on what she described as “a horrific shooting and fire” at the church. In a post on X, she confirmed that agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were en route to the scene.
“Such violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling,” Bondi said. “Please join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy.”
FBI Director Kash Patel also issued a statement, condemning the incident as “a cowardly and criminal act,” while confirming that federal agents were supporting local authorities in the investigation.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer called the attack “unacceptable,” adding that she was closely monitoring the situation.
This is a developing story, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
