Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), bringing an end to his leadership role within the party.
The announcement was made public through a statement he shared on the social media platform X, where he confirmed that his resignation takes immediate effect.
Kwankwaso, who served as the party’s National Leader and flagbearer in the 2023 general elections, described the decision as difficult but necessary.
According to him, the evolving nature of Nigeria’s political environment has made it imperative for him to pursue a new direction.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party with immediate effect,” he stated, emphasizing that his time in the party was both an honour and a privilege.
Reflecting on his journey, the former governor expressed deep appreciation to key stakeholders within the NNPP.
He specifically acknowledged the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, alongside members of the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, and the National Executive Committee for their consistent support.
He also extended gratitude to party leaders at all levels—from ward structures to state leadership—as well as loyal supporters and members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, noting their dedication to the party’s shared vision.
Despite his exit, Kwankwaso hinted at continued collaboration with political allies, stressing that his ultimate goal remains the progress and prosperity of Nigeria.
He explained that his resignation is part of a broader “strategic realignment” aimed at identifying a political platform better positioned to deliver meaningful change for the country.
While he did not immediately disclose his next political destination, the development is expected to trigger significant shifts within Nigeria’s political space as preparations gradually build toward future elections.
Kwankwaso concluded by reaffirming his commitment to national development, assuring supporters that his political journey would continue with renewed focus and purpose.
