The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the reported death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, better known as Ogogo, at the age of 66.

The actor was said to have passed away at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following his battle with cancer.

The actor’s daughter, Kira Taiwo, was seen in an emotional video circulating online as she broke the news of her father’s death. Overcome with grief, she repeatedly said, “My daddy is dead,” while mourning the veteran actor.

His death was also confirmed in a statement attributed to veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who expressed sadness over the passing of the respected Yoruba movie star.

In the statement, Kosoko described Hassan’s death as a painful loss to his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones, while announcing that the actor’s remains would be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, for funeral rites.

The statement urged members of the public to pray for the deceased and support his family as they come to terms with the loss.

The development comes shortly after his daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, separately appealed for urgent medical assistance as their father’s health condition deteriorated.

On Monday, August 17, the two daughters shared emotional videos on Instagram, calling on Nigerians, hospitals, medical professionals and well-wishers who could assist the veteran actor in accessing further treatment.

In her video, Kira revealed that her father’s cancer had progressed to Stage 4. She explained that the hospital where he was receiving treatment had reportedly told the family that it could no longer continue with chemotherapy.

With the situation becoming increasingly critical, Kira said the family had begun exploring other treatment options and was prepared to consider any legitimate medical intervention that could give the actor another chance at recovery.

She specifically appealed to hospitals, cancer specialists and individuals with links to medical professionals who might be able to intervene or recommend a facility capable of taking over his treatment.
