BCOS is at the centre of public attention following allegations that part of its exhibition ground was sold, prompting demands for transparency.

The Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) has become the centre of renewed public attention following allegations that a section of its exhibition ground may have been sold, with claims that the property involved includes the premises formerly occupied by Matrix Lounge and the corporation’s staff canteen.

Although the reports have generated widespread debate among workers, labour stakeholders and members of the public, neither the BCOS management nor the Oyo State Government had, as of the time of filing this report, officially confirmed or denied the alleged transaction.

Information available to iReport247News suggests that the land at the centre of the controversy was previously occupied in part by Matrix Lounge under what was understood to be a lease arrangement.

There are also claims that the reported transaction extends to the corporation’s staff canteen, a facility that has served employees for many years.

However, these claims remain unverified, and iReport247News has not independently confirmed whether the property was sold or whether the canteen forms part of the land in question.

The controversy has also revived discussions about previous changes involving BCOS properties.

In 2021, the corporation’s former staff quarters were transformed into what is now known as Engineer Lere Adigun GRA under the Oyo State Government’s urban renewal programme.

At the time, government officials publicly explained that eligible occupants were compensated before redevelopment commenced.

Because that exercise was openly announced, many observers believe any decision involving another major BCOS property should receive a similar level of public disclosure.

The latest allegations have raised several questions among workers and concerned residents.

Many want to know whether the reported disposal received the necessary approvals from the appropriate government authorities and whether all legal procedures were followed before the alleged transaction.

Others are asking whether an independent valuation of the property was carried out, whether the land was publicly advertised before disposal, and whether the reported sale truly includes both the former Matrix Lounge premises and the BCOS staff canteen.

There are also growing calls for authorities to disclose the financial details of the alleged transaction if it indeed occurred.

Stakeholders are seeking information on the amount realised, the government account into which any proceeds may have been paid, and the manner in which such funds would benefit BCOS and improve the corporation’s operations.

The debate comes at a time when concerns over workers’ welfare continue to dominate discussions within the corporation.

Employees have repeatedly expressed worries over issues such as unpaid salaries, outstanding statutory deductions and other welfare-related matters.

Labour advocates argue that if government assets are being leased, transferred or sold, the public deserves to know how those decisions will strengthen the institution and contribute to improving the welfare of its workforce.

Many observers have therefore called on both BCOS management and the Oyo State Government to publish a comprehensive inventory of the corporation’s assets, indicating which properties have been leased, redeveloped, allocated or disposed of over the years.

According to them, such openness would reduce speculation, strengthen public confidence and demonstrate that every transaction involving public property complies with established legal and administrative procedures.

The photograph accompanying this report shows the Matrix Lounge premises within the BCOS exhibition ground, which has become the focal point of the ongoing allegations.

While the image provides context to the location being discussed, it should not be interpreted as proof that any sale has taken place.

For now, the reported sale of part of the BCOS exhibition ground remains an allegation that has not been officially confirmed.

Until the Oyo State Government or BCOS management provides a formal explanation, questions surrounding the ownership, status and future of the property are likely to persist.
